TOE FAT - S/T LP, 1970 UK 1ST PRESS, PARLOPHONE VG+/EX RARE prog rock gem, pre- Uriah Heep, Hipgnosis sleeve Up for sale here:
A rare UK 1st press of this early Prog Rock bands debut LP. Formed by lead singer Cliff Bennett after the dissoloution of his 'Rebel Rousers', and included Ken Hensley (guitar) & Lee Kerslake (drums) who left after this 1st recording to form legendary heavy Prog group 'Uriah Heep'. Toe Fat gained much critical praise both in the UK and US, and supported Derek & the Dominoes on a US tour but failed to achieve any real commercial success at the time, and the group disbanded after one more LP. Mostly quality original compisitons by Bennett, the LP does include an excellent cover of the early Elton John song 'Bad Side of the Moon'. The sleeve design is an early example of Hipgnosis' work, most famous for working on countless Pink Floyd covers. The toe-headed people are typically abstract and it had to be doctored for the American market, with the naked couple in the background removed and replaced by a sheep! The disc has the black/silver Parlophone labels with ONE boxed EMI logo, showing this is a genuine 1st press, as this label design was bought in at the start of 1970 and changed to the version with two boxed EMI logos before the end of the year. All in all a great Prog Rock rarity that would look and sound good in any collection.

Condition: The disc grades as VERY GOOD+. The vinyl is very clean and still has a good shine. Some obvious marks on either side which give an occasional pop or hiss, but nothing that adversely affects playback, sounds almost like new. Labels are clean, no writing, stickers or marks, some obvious spindle marks on either side. The front laminated outer sleeve grades as EXCELLENT, very clean and flat with just a few light creases, scuffs along the edges and very faint ring-wear due to storage. The un-laminated rear is still very clean, with a few age spots. No tears, splits or rips, no writing or other marks. The disc comes in a plain white poly-lined sleeve.
