·       PLAIN, GENERIC WHITE DOUGLA TEST PRESSING LABELS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER DETAILS EXCEPT FOR THE LABEL'S NAME (DOUGLAS) ARTIST'S NAME (TIMOTHY LEARY) AND SIDE DESIGNATION (A/B);

·       SIDE 2 ("B"), HOWEVER, ALSO CONTAINS HANDWRITTEN TITLES OF THE TWO TRACKS (SIDE 1 DOES NOT NAME THE LONE TRACK ON IT), AND THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET TO BE INTERESTING;  NAMELY, THE PROPOSED TITLES OF THE TWO TRACKS ON SIDE 2 SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFER FROM THE RELEASED VERSIONS: INSTEAD OF THE OFFICIALLY RELEASED TITLE FOR THE FIRST SONG (" YOU CAN BE ANYONE THIS TIME AROUND"), THE FIRST TRACK ON THIS TEST PRESSING WAS TENTATIVELY TITLED AS "DREAMS (TRIPS)"; THE SECOND TRACK BEARS THE WORKING TITLE "CIVIL RIGHTS (LIVE AND LET LIVE") INSTEAD OF THE OFFICIALLY RELEASED TITLE "WHAT DO YOU TURN ON WHEN YOU TURN ON"); ODDLY, THE SECOND TRACK BEARS SUBTITLE "LIVE AND LET LIVE" WHICH, ON THE OFFICIALLY RELEASED ALBUM,  WAS ASSIGNED TO THE SIDE-LONG SUITE ON THE SIDE 1, WHICH REMAINS UNTITLED ON THIS TEST PRESSING. WE COULD NOT DETECT ANY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS TEST PRESSING AND THE RELEASED VERSION, ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS THAT TEST PRESSING HAS LESS ECHO ADDED THAN ON THE RELEASED VERSION (PARTICULARLY ON SIDE 2, TRACK 2:  'WHAT DO YOU TURN ON WHEN YOU TURN ON'

·       THE RECORD COMES IN PLAIN, GENERIC, WHITE TEST PRESSING JACKET; STRANGELY, IT ALSO COMES IN ORIGINAL DOUGLAS INNER SLEEVE.

·       WE BELIEVE THIS WAS THE LAST JIMI HENDRIX STUDIO RECORDING RELEASED IN HIS LIFETIME: THE PRESS KIT INCLUDED WITH ONE OF THE COPIES OF THIS ALBUM WE AUCTIONED PREVIOUSLY  WAS DATED AUGUST 19, 1970, WHEREAS JIMI HENDRIX DIED LESS THAN A MONTH LATER; IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE THAT HENDRIX DIED WITHOUT EVER SEEING A COPY OF THIS ALBUM.

Amazing !!! An unbelievable piece: What we have here is an unheard-of TEST PRESSING of this monster Jimi Hendrix / Timothy Leary psychedelic jam.. While many test pressings often have alternate or demo- versions of known, later released songs, and while it is possible that this particular test pressing contains demo or alternate versions of some of the tracks, please don’t take our word that it does: unfortunately, we are not familiar with the entire album (we know only a few songs) and we regret  we cannot provide any competent information on how different this TEST PRESSING may be from the official release. Please contact us if you have any questions. The generic white test pressing label is (almost) entirely blank and without any details whatsoever except for the legal disclaimer.

We still don't know how to characterize this Timothy Leary/Jimi Hendrix collaboration: this is part Jimi Hendrix' Voodoo Jam, part Hare Krishna chant, part Psychedelic Freakout, part Hypnotic session, part Acid party, part dadaist tone poem, part lecture in psychiatry, part beatnik poetry, part Buddhist mantra, part novelty item, and part sheer silliness of the sixties.

Of all the albums by other artists Jimi Hendrix played on (and there is only a handful of those - we can think of about 5-8 titles at most; works by Love, Stephen Stills, Martha Velez,  Heir Apparent, Timothy Leary, Isley Brothers, Cat Mother…), this Timothy Leary collaboration is probably the toughest one to find and, last time we checked, it was unavailable on compact disc or any other format in more than a decade. Jimi's instantly recognizable guitar patterns can be discerned on the extended jam on side 2, and possibly on parts of two songs on side 1.  Miss out this mega-rarity only if you are stoned silly.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+(+) . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER : This reference pressing comes without any custom jacket, and will be shipped in its original plain, generic, white cardboard cover (NOT GRADED SEPARATELY, BUT IN A NICE CONDITION OVERALL); the record DOES come in original Douglas inner sleeve, though.
