Description

PAUL McCARTNEY is….
THRILLINGTON (1977)

Percy ‘Thrills’ Thrillington was born in Coventry Cathedral in 1939. As a young man his travels took him to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, wher he studied music for five years on the trot. Moving later to Los Angeles, he gained expertise in the marketing, conducting, and arranging fields. Eventually the path led to London where his long ambition to form his own orchestra was finally realized. On this record Percy takes the themes from Paul McCartney’s ‘RAM’ Lp, and with the helf of some of London’s best musicians, forges them into orchestral versions that bear the unmistakable imprint – the mark of THRILLINGTON.

Oh sure, the Lp cover says this album is by Percy Thrillington, but it’s a pretty thin ruse when you dig into the ample clues and discover (as a child could) that it is, in face, Paul McCartney behind the mask.

The clues are abundant – he’s on the cover depicted as a RAM , and he’s even got his face reflected in the studio glass on the back of the Lp. It was quite an ambitious project back in 1977, and I don’t know if they actually expected it to be a hit or not, but it barely sold and is now quite scarce. This is an original US pressing on Capitol.
