This auction is for an original 1958 Riverside Records: RLP 12- 209 Mono LP long playing microgroove version.  Label is white with blue print and microphone and reel logo.  The Thelonious Monk recording; The Unique Thelonious Monk   with Oscar Pettiford, bass; Art Blakey, drums; Monk, piano.
The LP is in good condition except for visible hairline surface scratches on sides 1 & 2, these are not deep. There are slight spindle marks, static dust and finger prints. I decided not to clean it because record care and standards vary from person to person I will leave further care up to the new owner. This record appears to be VG. The cover appears to be VG, with some slight shelf wear edges, small seam split lower right corner, note written in ink on back (Christmas gift salutations). There was no original sleeve so we have inserted the record into a new sleeve.

The record came from the estate of a close friend and my guess is he played it one or two, possibly three times. The little bit of wear on the cover came from moving his entire collection (about 2500 albums) to three different houses over the course of his life. His stereo system was a high end Thorens and Nacamichi system so when these records were played it was on a good sound turntable. The former owner also had a jazz radio show on the local Public Radio Station so he might have played this on the air. Anyway, I know for a fact this record has been kept in a climate controlled room (constant 75 degrees year round) for the last 20 years, so there is no warping. This and the other records in this collection have not been played for at least 10 years probably longer and need to be in the hands of collectors who know how to take care of and appreciate them.

I have not played the record.  I have only visually inspected each side while trying to be objective. The record appears VG by Goldmine Standards. However, I have learned from experience record grading can be highly subjective. That said, there are NO MAJOR scratches, NO apparent surface wear due to abuse of the playing surface. As I said, I decided not to try to clean it. I'll leave further care up to the new owner. At the risk of being redundant, for the purposes of this auction and because record care and standards vary form person to person, I will only guarantee this LP as VG. I'd call the cover VG.  With a little cleaning and dusting this LP will make a great addition to your jazz library.

I have taken several close up pictures to verify the condition prior to shipping. You can take the record out and look at examine it and play it, but if you play it and scratch it, then you own it. 

If you're just looking for the music, please, buy one of the CD collections offered at other EBay stores. I'm not trying to be difficult; I just don't want any misunderstandings. In my heart I don't think this record has been played more than two or three times.  The previous owner was a record collector but he was into Big Band Swing, this is not the genre of jazz he would have listened to with any degree of frequency. I honestly think he either bought this record to round out his collection or it came to him by way of his involvement with the radio program or maybe it was a gift from a friend or family member who knew he loved jazz.
