THE WORLD OF JANOS STARKER - rare Period Box 3LPs TE-1093 ++++
Arguably the finest cellist ever to play, Janos Starker's reputation has become legendary, his solo Bach suites on vinyl becoming priceless.
This Period Boxed Set features Starker playing works of Mozart, Boccherini, Kodaly, Bartok, and Weiner.
The Boccherini is the CONCERTO FOR CELLO IN B FLAT; the Mozart-Fischer is the CONCERTO FOR CELLO IN E FLAT (transcribed from the trumpet concerto); the Kodaly includes SONATA FOR UNACCOMPANIED CELLO, DUO FOR VIOLIN AND CELLO (with Arnold Eidus on violin), and SONATA FOR CELLO AND PIANO (with Otto Herz); the Bartok is RHAPSODY No. 1 FOR CELLO AND PIANO (again with Herz); and the Weiner is LAKODALMAS FOR CELLO AND PIANO (Herz).
Box of this set has the binding weakening (I repaired with tape) but does not have a split corner and otherwise simply looks old. The one-sheet is included, and the three records should play VG+ to VG with only rubber mat scuffs in evidence.
A classic set that captures one of the greatest virtuosos of this or any time.
