The very rare FONTANA 45; "BOWIE MAN" c/w "PURPLE PILL EATER" by THE WILD ONES - FONTANA TF 468 ~ (1964)

Stamped with the matrix numbers "267350 1F Ö 1//420 1" on side 1, (267350 TF AND 267350 1F are repeated on the label), & "267350 2F Ö 1 = 42011" on side 2, (267350 TF and 267350 2F are repeated on the label again), it has no Master or Stamper symbols; I believe this to be a 1st pressing, based upon these numbers and the single’s lack of success and great rarity.

So, this auction is for a very good copy of this rare single, the only one by this band, (although there was an LP); I believe they were the backing band at one time for Heinz, (who’s "Just Like Eddie" single I shall list soon).
It is in a very good white print/very dark blue ground sleeve; the vinyl is very good and it plays perfectly.

The record itself is genuinely very clean on both sides, without any sleeve surface marking, absolutely no scratches, no surface noise, (except for just a little on the lead in and lead out grooves as usual), no crackles or pops and no jumps and with clean labels without much spindle marking; it has hardly been played because it’s not to my taste.
It has an intact punch-out centre.

The cover is clean, but with minor crumple marks, no age browning - as usual, I have made no attempt to "tidy" this item up to deceive bidders, or play around with the images - all I will do to my eBay listing images is crop the image size and adjust the contrast and brightness, simply because the camera keeps taking very faint pictures!
(By the way, the record labels are very much darker than the pictures show!)

I take the best pictures I can of the record surfaces for bidders to see the real condition, and also try and get the record matrix numbers if possible in the images, (I note that these details are rarely shown with records offered by others on eBay - ever heard of the expression "do not buy a pig in a poke"?)

Using the Record Collector grading system; the vinyl is still EXCELLENT on both sides, the cover is also Excellent.

All my records are from my own personal collection, built up since the early 1960’s and have genuinely been played very little and then only on quality turntables, (Garrard Zero 100, Lab 80 and Goldring GL75), set up with a low tracking force, using Shure, then Grado then Stanton cartridges over the years. All records have been dry stored, vertically, in the dark and only ever played by myself and NEVER lent to anybody!
