Rare and highly sought after 1964 UK 1st pressing of this jazz & blues classic on the coveted ORIOLE label, PS 40058 MONO

The appearance of the vinyl is truly excellent. Both sides of the vinyl have retained an impressive sheen and in normal daylight come across as near perfect. Under a bright light and held at the right angle it is possible to detect a couple of thin scuff marks (1st two tracks of side 1) aong with the odd wispy hairline (both sides). All of these very minor blemishes are non-"feelable" and strictly surface-only. They do not adversely affect playback at all.

Each label is excellent. All writing remains perfectly defined, as does the matt textured surface. There are a few faint spindle trails on each side adjacent to the spindle hole but apart from that, perfect!

The front side Robert Stace laminated outer sleeve is a strong very good. There is barely any scuffing on any of the edges or corners and, as my photos show, the spine remains in great condition with all writing perfectly legible. There is barely any laminate lifting and the front side photo and colouring remains crisp and vibrant. there is barely any fraying on the opening edges, each of which remain rigid and well defined. Tere is just a hint of some mild creasing (not obvious at all) at the top right hand corner.The reverse side suffers from some mild age discolouration and right in the middle (immediately to the right of the Keith Moon photo) there is some mild scuffing, possibly where there was once a label or sticker. There is also some very light ring wear, more noticeable on the reverse side, and there is a fairly obvious 14cm diagonal crease towards the bottom left hand corner when viewed from the front side. This is a notoriously fragile sleeve comprising thin cardboard, so considering this it's remarkable that the sleeve has survived in this good a condition after some 52 years! 

Finally, the quality of the audio is an overall excellent, and at times stunning ie My Generation. Great tone and clarity, beautifully raw 60's MONO, and barely any distortion even when played loud and on the higher frequencies. There is just the merest hint of some occasional very light background crackle/static ie at the beginning of each side and slightly more noticeable on side 2 but this is very minor.

Comes in original Brunswick white (with blue writing) poly-lined inner inner, with "British Patent No. 800513 & 973939" and "MADE IN ENGLAND 126". No tears or splits and still fully functional, just a little creasing towards the corners along with some age discolouration.

In summary, a really impressive scarce first pressing of this landmark album, in remarkably good condition considering it's 52 year antiquity.

I take great care in removing the record from the outer sleeve in order to prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair 

Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
