The records I'm currently selling have all come from the same owner. Generally, they are in immaculate condition and each one would be a worthy addition to any collection. This has to be one of the hardest rock collectibles to find as a genuine complete original copy. So many copies have had some of the inserts swapped or replaced over the years so that it is very hard to know whether you have a complete genuine item or one which includes pieces from later pressings.

This is a genuine and complete first pressing, including all the authentic and genuine first-pressing inserts.

This has come from a collection where the original owner bought every item new and stored everything in perfect order and conditions.

I am not claiming to be an expert on the history of ‘Live at Leeds’ inserts, but I have 100% belief that this copy is complete and authentic in every way. The sleeve, vinyl and poster are irrefutably original first pressings and the single-most elusive insert to find as a genuine first pressing (the overhead guitar shot of Pete Townshend) is undoubtedly the genuine article too, so I can see no reason to doubt that any of the other inserts are genuine.

The main point to make about all these inserts is that the typewriter text, rubber stamps, handwriting (in pencil and biro) all LOOK EXACTLY like genuine items (i.e. they look like they have been typewritten, rubber stamped or written by hand) whereas later copies simply look like they are printed). Also, the original inserts are made from a variety of (usually thin) papers whereas later copies tended to be produced on similar (much thicker) papers.

There have been various copies sold in the past on ebay in which the seller claims to have detailed knowledge about the differences between first and later pressings. However, some of the points used as verification by these so-called ‘experts’ are contradictory  (e.g. some sellers have claimed that first press examples of two of the inserts have holes punched in them whereas other sellers refute this claim saying that first press inserts have no holes punched.)

I am convinced that there is absolutely no possibility that any of the inserts in this copy have been swapped from a later issue and that they are all genuine and correct in every way. But for the avoidance of any doubt I have shown every insert in the photographs and will describe them below, pointing out any factors which I believe authenticates their originality.

The first press vinyl has the following matrix numbers:

Side 1: 2406001 A//1

Side 2: 2406001 B//1

The outer sleeve has a BLACK stamp on the front and black text inside. It weighs about 80 grams and is made of a dark, fairly heavy card and the internal pockets are 14.5 cm tall. Later copies come in a sleeve which is much lighter weight and more flimsy as well as being paler in colour. Also, later issues do not have black print, they are usually red or sometimes blue and the pockets inside the sleeve are almost 1 cm shorter.

The poster says 'TUESDAYS AT THE MARQUEE' and is printed on heavy, matt paper.

The 'PETE TOWNSHEND GUITAR OVERHEAD' picture is printed on thin paper which is folded in half. The handwritten text on the reverse is BLUE and looks like it was done by a dark blue biro rather than printed. This was the first insert to be changed, with all but the very first issues having black writing on the reverse (my photo doesn't show it very well but this definitely has blue writing).

The band photograph is made from proper photo-paper (semi-gloss front) and is very clear and looks like a real photo.

The 'MY GENERATION' lyrics insert is made from thin typewriter paper and the typewriter text and the pencil handwriting look genuine rather than printed.

The 'HIGH NUMBERS' insert is made from very thin paper and is folded in half. It looks like a genuine carbon-paper copy rather than printed.

The 'NEW ACTION LTD' insert is made from thin paper and is folded in half.

The 'PREMIER TALENT ASSOCIATES' contract is made from thin yellow paper and the rubber stamps are all fully legible and look real rather than printed.

The 'KINGS AGENCY' insert is made from thin paper and is not hole-punched. The 'Barry Perkins' signature looks genuine rather than printed.

The Brock’s Fireworks insert is made from thin typewriter paper and the typed text looks like it was typed rather than printed. 

The small 'NOTICE' insert is made from thin paper and is not hole-punched. The print is deep blue. The biro writing looks like a biro rather than printed.

The 'EMI RECORDS' insert is made from thin paper and the type written text looks real rather than printed.

The 'MARQUEE CLUB' payments insert is made from thin paper and the typing and biro handwriting look real rather than printed.

Description of condition:
Vinyl: The vinyl looks superb and has retained its original high sheen. It has clearly been very well cared for and rarely played. Under bright light, just fine hairlines and sleeve removal-type marks were visible. I have played the entire record and it sounds fantastic, with just some soft background noise and crackle which can be heard in the quiet parts and the run-ins/outs, fades, silent grooves and intros and the occasional random click. On side one I did not hear any repetive clicks at all. On side two there is a soft click which can be heard for about 30 seconds during one of the quiet transitions in the 'My Generation' medley and three clicks (barely audible and in the right channel only) during 'Magic Bus'. But these points are mentioned purely for the sake of accuracy and completeness as there is absolutely nothing loud or intrusive anywhere. This is a superb example and was a real pleasure to listen to.
Labels: Both labels look superb with absolutely no signs of damage, writing, stickers etc and just light spindle marking, suggesting just a limited number of plays.
Sleeve: The sleeve is really nice and clean with no damage, writing, splits, tears or stickers etc and just light signs of use. There are just some light creases around the edges and corners and a few minor marks.
Inserts: All the inserts are in excellent or near mint condition.

Play-graded vinyl: I play grade records where possible but I don't have time to play them all. I will not usually play records which appear to be in excellent or NM condition. I always state in the listing if I have played a record prior to describing it. When I play a record I listen to it carefully through headphones, taking notes of any noise, clicks, distortion etc and play it all the way through, unless stated otherwise.

Visually-graded vinyl: Unless specifically stated in the listing, vinyl is visually graded. A visual grading will identify physical flaws (such as scratches) and can help determine whether a record has been cared-for properly, but it will not detect noise or crackle caused by non-visible sources. Most of the records I sell are between thirty and fifty years old and so it is likely that there may be some background noise even if they look perfect.

POSTAGE & PACKING

I care about the records I sell and believe that they need to be carefully and securely packaged to ensure that they survive their journey through the post. Vinyl is removed from the sleeve for posting and the contents will be protected with rigid cardboard stiffeners. All packages are labelled "Do not bend" and securely sealed with "FRAGILE" parcel tape.

I support the use of recycled materials and so I may send some items in packaging which has been previously used or which has been made from other cardboard packaging. If you wish your item to be sent in entirely new packaging please let me know before paying for it. Thanks.

P&P charges

I need to cover the cost of postage, packing materials, time and fees but I try not to charge more for packing and posting your item than it actually costs me. I do not view P&P costs as a means of making money.

However, to quote an exact cost for every LP is difficult because of the wide variance in weight (e.g. Abbey Road weighs around 230 grams whereas Led Zeppelin III weighs around 390 grams). But the majority of single LPs, when packed, will weigh around 500-550 grams and I have based my P&P rates on this.

Occasionally, you may end up paying a few pence more than it actually costs me and occasionally you may end up paying a few pence less than it actually costs me. If there is a significant discrepancy in your favour I will refund the difference.

Double LPs will be charged as two LPs, triple LPs will be charged as three LPs. Box sets etc will be charged according to weight.

UK P&P costs

UK Standard service - items are sent quickly and securely using first class recorded post, which includes insurance up to £41. The cost for this is as follows:

First LP or 12" = £3.80, each additional LP or 12" add £0.80

First 7" or CD = £1.90, each additional 7" or CD add £0.50


UK Fully insured service - Any order valued over £41 will be sent fully insured using Royal Mail Special Delivery and the total cost of this will be £7.50.  Multiple-item orders weighing more than 1kg or items valued over £500 will cost slightly more to insure, so please wait for my invoice before paying.


UK Economy service - If the value of your order is below £10 you can request a new invoice to have your item sent by standard second class post (unrecorded). However, please be aware that this service can take up to a week to reach you and in the event of a claim for loss or damage, Royal Mail will not reimburse the full value of your order. The cost for this is as follows:

First LP or 12" = £3.00, each additional LP or 12" add £0.70

First 7" or CD = £1.10, each additional 7" or CD add £0.45

Insurance

For overseas orders, I include insurance on all invoices. This is additional to the costs above. If your order is valued under £10 you can request a new invoice without insurance (but in the event of a claim for loss or damage, Royal Mail will not reimburse the full value). Overseas orders valued over £10 will ONLY be sent fully insured.

Insurance is charged at cost as follows:

• Overseas orders valued up to £41 will be insured for an additional £4.95
• Overseas orders valued between £41 and £500 will be insured for an additional £7.45
• Overseas orders valued over £500, please contact me.

Overseas orders weighing more than 2kg will be split into two or more packages as appropriate so they can be sent using Royal Mail's Small Packet Rate, so please wait for my invoice on larger multiple purchases.

Customs declaration for overseas orders: Please note that for overseas orders outside the EU I need to complete a customs declaration and must enter the value of the package on the declaration.
