THE WHO, LIVE AT LEEDS, 1970 UK TRACK A1/B1 1st PRESS

From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer a superb complete example of the iconic live album by THE WHO titled ‘LIVE AT LEEDS’, Catalogue Number 2406 001. This is an original 1970 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the TRACK RECORDS LABEL with the earliest A1/B1 Matrix Numbers and a lovely 1st issue MacNeill Press gatefold sleeve which has the blue stamp on the front. The package comes with all 12 inserts - including the elusive earliest Marquee poster.

The thin card gatefold sleeve, printed and made by MacNeill Press Ltd., London, is in VG+ condition (strictly graded) with only light wear and a few small creases. The central pockets are fully intact and the retaining staples are rust-free. There is a little wear to the top spine corner and a faint mark where a sticker has been removed from the front top right corner – but these are nothing serious. You can see from the photos that is a very well preserved example of this notoriously fragile sleeve.  

The top quality Track record is solid and inflexible and sits perfectly flat on the turntable. It retains a deep mirror-like shine and the playing surfaces are spotlessly clean.

The matrix numbers are:

Side A – 2406001   A//1    1  ?    1  6     

Side B – 2406001   B//1    1  1    2  1     

Visually the record is in EX condition with just a few noticeable sleeve storage rub marks on Side A. These are only superficial and do not cause any audio problems whatsoever. The beautiful Track labels are unmarked with only a few spindle traces near the centres. There is barely any wear to the spindle hole.  

PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:

This is a top quality Track pressing which plays with outstanding sound quality. Playback is particularly raw and vibrant and the bass is very impressive. The record plays perfectly. There is no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all (just occasional very light surface sound which is never intrusive and only mentioned for complete accuracy). You simply will not find a significantly better-playing 1st press copy of this essential album.

The 11 inserts are all unmarked and in VG to EX condition (just a few small corner/edge creases.

The large fold-out Marquee Poster is in unmarked MINT- condition.

Complete with the correct white poly-lined inner sleeve which is in VG condition (collection number stamped in one corner).

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.

PACKAGING

Records are sent out in new “Wrapro” record mailers. These are rectangular and strong, providing excellent protection to the edges and corners. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
