I was using a streaming music service and was surprised to catch this album on it, with being out of production for so long. I checked here later and the MP3's are available! I really liked this album a lot when I first listened to it nearly 20 years ago. It is when The Who reproduced their music in a much larger, fuller, complete sound, including a full horn section, backing vocals, percussion. The Who sounded great with their raw energy such as Isle of Wight, but I think their sound in the '89 set has just as much to offer and outshines in some areas. The jewel on here is Tommy. Tommy is nice in a hard rock theme, but I think the mix treatment of Broadway and Rock and Roll was a stroke of genius. The horns and added vocals add so much needed detail to the rock opera. I honestly don't think it gets any better. The other tracks are a nice cross section of Who tracks and Townsend's single material. It isn't repetitive stuff you hear all the time, but it isn't unfamiliar, best of both worlds. And I think it sounds quite nice. A remastering could freshen it up, but overall I was not disappointed and it didn't sound dated.actory sealed original record set. I see photos for accurate box condition.
