The Who : A Quick One A2 / B1 1st Mono Press 1966

This very first mono pressing plays to a very high standard with barely any intrusion.  There is just one very light tick on S1 and a kind of tinny sound every now and then but I am sure that is only due to how it was recorded / being played on a stereo set up.  The clarity overall is stunning and there are no clicks or pops and no static either.  Perhaps not surprising because the vinyl is visually stunning and is easily the best I have ever seen.  It's worth pointing out that there is complete silence in the deadwax between tracks also, kind of gives you an idea of the clarity on offer here.

The laminated cover is in very good condition bordering on excellent with only minimal creasing around the edges and the original poly-lined inner sleeve is in very good condition but with no side splits or tears.

The audio on S1 is Near Mint (T1 Ex+ / T2 Mint-)

The audio on S2 is Near Mint (T2 & T3 Mint-)

The fully laminated cover is VG+

The labels are Mint-

The original inner sleeve is VG+

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a stunning glossy sheen with no scratches.  There is one small hairline on S1 that is just a little more obvious but is still faint and has zero affect on the audio.  Aside from that it is incredibly clean with only a handful of mega faint sleeve removal hairlines, it truly is in remarkable condition for a near 58 year old vinyl!  The run groves are pristine and the rough textured Creation labels are in superb shape with barely any spindle wear.

Play grading

'Run, Run, Run' plays with strong, deep audio from start to finish with no interference.  There is perhaps a tinny distortion sound but that may be more to do with how it was recorded / produced.  I will say Ex+ although that may be a little harsh.

The bass intro on 'Boris The Spider' has no intrusion and Entwistle's opening vocal is of the same high end standard.  It continues to play with real quality and with that typically deep rich mono sound.  There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and Mint is well deserved.

'I Need You' plays in much the same way and not surprisingly the drums are very high in the mix here.  Again perhaps just a little distortion during the brief louder passages but it does not impact on the audio quality.  Let's say Near Mint

The intro on 'Whisky Man' plays perfectly and the first vocal is equal to that.  From then on it plays so clearly without any background, the clarity really is so impressive for a '66 album.  Not even a dust tick but perhaps not quite as 'clear' during the louder 'moments', a couple at most.  This is only a minor thing and perhaps would not be the case when played through a mono set up.  Near Mint

'Heat Wave' plays with very strong audio and again there is no intrusion.  A powerful track and yet there is very little distortion, in a way distortion doesn't seem like the correct word for it.  More the clarity of sound isn't quite on the same level.  I think Near Mint is fair.

Moon's 'Cobwebs And Strange' plays with stunning quality for a final track.  There is no interference and no obvious inner groove distortion either.  The quiet intro is flawless and other sections play so clearly also.  I'll grade as Near Mint but even that might be undervaluing it!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

'Don't Look Away' plays with stunning quality with barely any background.  The clarity and depth of sound is so impressive and there is only one minor tick in the middle section.  So close to perfect and the fade out has not even a solitary dust tick.  I will grade as Near Mint

'See My Way' again plays with incredible clarity with no background.  The clarity is quite simply stunning and to think this record is not far off 60 years old!  A rare number by Daltrey it definitely deserves a Mint grade.

The 'busy' intro on 'So Sad About Us' plays very clearly with no intrusion and the opening vocal is on the same level.  This standard is kept up throughout - no distortion as such just a powerful busy sound.  Mint-

The classic vocal intro on 'A Quick One While He's Away' plays with STUNNING clarity, depth and warmth and the following instrumental section / vocal have no intrusion either.  The next instrumental plays with great also and from then on there is no interference.  A bit of a 'tinny' sound every now and then during the louder sections but for the same reasons as mentioned previously.  It's not a distraction as such and overall the sonic quality is superb.  The 'quieter' sections play with wonderful clarity and again no ticks, clicks etc.  A classic Townshend track that has to grade as Near Mint in my opinion.

The laminated Cover & Inner Sleeve

The fully laminated cover is in very good condition with only a little shelf wear.  The edges and spine are in superb shape and the corners are very clean with only very minimal wear top right.  The opening edge has barely any handling wear and the front cover is unmarked with just a couple of laminate 'bubbles' next to the spine and some of the usual laminate creasing around the edges.  The back cover is perhaps even more impressive with only minimal laminate 'lifting' / creasing by the spine and the slightest of rubbing near the top and bottom edge - this is very very minor!  A very strong example.

The original poly-lined inner sleeve has no side splits or tears but does have some age related fading here and there and a little creasing.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM 95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
