THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO orig Cdn Emerson M-
1967/Cdn/Verve V6-5008…..here’s a stunning original Canadian Stereo DJ pressing of their legendary first lp. The cover on this original Canadian issue is like the single sleeve UK copy but this cover is thick and not laminated. The cover is in solid Excellent condition, there is very slight minor storage wear at the bottom on the front, the color is bright and clean on this original Emerson front cover, the black and white back cover is clean and stamped for DJ use, that’s the only way a promo was issued in Canada for Verve Records. There are no splits or delete and the cover is clean and sharp! The vinyl is in M- like new condition and plays clean with very nice fidelity. This is a top original Canadian promo copy for your collection! And the first Canadian promo copy I have ever had! Please check my auctions for other rock, psych, garage, and various lp’s, good luck and thanks for looking!
The Velvet Underground & Nico was recorded with the first professional line up of The Velvet Underground, including Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen "Moe" Tucker; with Nico, who would occasionally sing lead with the band at the instigation of their mentor and manager, Andy Warhol. Nico would sing lead on three of the album's tracks ("Femme Fatale", "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "I'll Be Your Mirror") and back up on "Sunday Morning". In 1966, as the album was being recorded, this was also the line up that would perform live as a part of Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable.
The bulk of the songs that would become The Velvet Underground & Nico were recorded in mid-April, 1966, during a four-day stint at Scepter Studios, a decrepit recording studio in New York City. This recording session was financed by Warhol and Columbia Records' sales executive Norman Dolph, who also acted as an engineer with John Licata. Though exact total cost of the project is unknown, estimates vary from $1500 to $3000.
Actual recording at Scepter was done rather quickly in about two business days (roughly 8-10 hours) while the third was spent listening to the material and the fourth was spent mixing. Soon after, Dolph sent an acetate disc of the recordings to Columbia in an attempt to interest them in distributing the album, but they declined, as did Atlantic Records and Elektra Records. Eventually, the MGM Records-owned Verve Records accepted the recordings with the help of Verve staff producer Tom Wilson, who had recently moved from a job at Columbia.
With the affirmation of a label, three of the songs, "I'm Waiting for the Man", "Venus in Furs" and "Heroin", were re-recorded in two days at T.T.G. Studios during a stay in Hollywood later in 1966. As the record's release date was bumped back time after time because of production problems, Wilson also took them into a New York studio in November 1966 to add a final song to the track listing: the prospective single "Sunday Morning". The production on that song is far more professional and lush, aimed as it was at radio playtime.

///GRADING///
MINT: as stated with no defects
NEAR MINT: as stated near Mint!, or Mint Minus, same thing, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a near Mint record looks and plays very clean
EXCELLENT: not much below near Mint, may have a delete hole and/or a minor defect or two not visually detracting from the cover, the vinyl will appear shiny and in clean condition with very minor defects not affecting the sound, still very clean and very collectable!
VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much
VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition, I also play grade the records on high end equipment and will give an honest play grade as well as visual grade, considering the number of records I buy on line my grading is very conservative and fair.
