Ultra rare East Coast 1st stereo pressing copy of the 1st album The Velvet Underground & Nico with an unpeeled classic Andy Warhol's banana sticker and 1st state uncensored gatefold cover. This is a so-called "Torso" cover with an image of a dancer and actor Eric Emerson, who starred in Andy Warhol's movies. His image was inverted and placed on the back cover of the album. After the album was released, Emerson, dissatisfied with the fact that his image was used on the album's cover without his permission, threatened to file a lawsuit against the record label, if his image wasn't removed from the cover. As a result of the compromise, the image of Emerson was covered with a large black sticker on the copies that contained the image, and was then airbrushed on all of the subsequent pressings. This copy is the earliest 1st Stereo pressing and one among few uncensored copies with a fully visible Emerson's torso on the back cover without a black sticker. Andy Warhol's banana sticker remains unpeeled and fully intact without any tears, only having some very light scuffing seen under a strong light source. The cover remains in its original distributor baggy " May Co Record Dept." stamped in red. The baggy is opened at the spine of the cover as oppose to the mouth. The front cover has a very light factory printing discoloration in the form of a few pink spots coming from the pink banana underneath the sticker. The cover is very clean without a ring wear on the front or back, no soiling, writing or dirt, having some occasional edge and corner wear, along with a light splitting in the center of the spine on the back cover. Just like the front and back cover, the gatefold interior is very clean without any tears or splitting. The front and back cover have some very light occasional surface scuffing seen under a strong light source with the bottom left corner of the front cover having some light wear along with a light crease at the bottom left corner of the back cover. The album comes with an original Verve Records paper inner sleeve without any splits. The vinyl has a beautiful glossy luster with some very light occasional surface marks and scuffs from the inner sleeve. The labels contain a 1.25' pressing ring and the block-looking "S" along the label fonts, indicating a pressing by MGM Record Manufacturing Division, Bloomfield, New Jersey. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - V5008 SIDE 1 MG558Rev 1C Block-shaped "S" stamp / Side 2 - V5008 SIDE 2 MG559 1 1 8(Symbol). Side 2 label has a misprint of the timing for "I'll Be Your Mirror," indicating 2:01 as oppose to the correct one 2:10. The labels are very clean, having some very light spindle marks seen under a strong light source.
