Description

This auction is for an extremely rare and collectible copy of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO LP with the banana sticker unpeeled!!! This is the stereo airbrushed version released in 1968 by Verve Records with a gatefold jacket and catalogue number V6-5008. The airbrushed version refers to the journalist Emerson being airbrushed out of the image on the back cover. This is the East Coast blue and silver T Verve center label pressing.

  • Song credits: Reed - Cale - Morrison - Tucker.
"Three Prong Music All Selections BMI"
  • "MGM RECORDS - A DIVISION OF METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER, INC. - Made in U.S.A."

The banana is strong, but from the looks of it it was torn on the bottom left edge (probably during storage as it appears it was never actually all the way peeled off). It was then reattached at some point PRIOR to us receiving the record. I have photographed the tear in the second photograph. It's still complete and fully attached to the jacket.

The record is in amazing shape with no skips, pops or endless loops present. Plays through beautifully with only extremely faint noise during the quietest of passages. Rated conservatively at VG++ audibly. Rated EX visually, with absolutely no detriments visible at all (it looks nearly unplayed). Center labels are very clean with only a few spindle marks that are only visible under the correct lighting. Jacket is in VG+ shape conservatively, and is rated at that only because of the writing on the back (which is a gentlemen's name who always signed all of his records - we have seen many of his records around town here and they were always kept in the best shape and played with extreme care). If the writing wouldn't be present I would rate this particular copy's jacket at VG++. It has extremely strong corners and seams, no ringwear and it has obviously been properly cared for for its entire life. It has only light signs of wear on the jacket. Rated conservatively at VG+.

Goldmine Grading System:

  • SS  Still Sealed
  • M  Mint - Perfect in all ways.
  • M- Mint Minus - Near perfect, most likely and unplayed record
  • NM- Near Mint Minus - Extremely well cared for record. Probably a record that's been around for some years but extremely well looked after, but still not quite new enough to call Mint.
  • VG++ Very Good Plus - As close to NM as it comes.
  • VG+  Very Good Plus - Very close to like new with only superficial signs of use that do not affect playability. Only records stored and used with care will grade out to VG+.
  • VG Very Good - A used, reasonable copy that plays. There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility of some light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, but still nice and playable.
  • VG- Very Good Minus - A record with significant wear and marks. Records graded VG-usually have some noticeable surface noise.
  • G+ Good Plus. 'Good' means pretty beat up. From here on down (Fair, Poor), we're talking about extremely beat up records.
