" IT'S NOT TRUE / GIMME, GIMME SOME SHADE "
Original 45 on the PLANET lable cat# PLF.103 - from 1965
Another outstanding MOD special - this a cover of Pete Townshend's band THE WHO, with a track from their brilliant debut LP that wasn't picked as a single track for them.
So, Shel Talmy doing a bit of feeding from his latest band, he sidled away a track for another MOD band. The WHO weren't keen on Talmy though, perhaps seeing him as too much of a marketeer from their musical product - and they skipped lable amongst a lawsuit to Robert Stigwood's new lable Reaction, and finally Track. A few Townshend tunes saw release from a variety of bands though, and almost all are highly collectible, like this one, and 'Circles' by The Fleur De Lys for examples.
The Untamed put a smoother beat to this song for an attempt at the singles chart - but it made absolutely no difference as the 45 SANK without trace!
Without radio play or sales, this became a very rare 45 mentioned only in knowing collector circles, and WHO books that documented such things.
Classic MOD groover with all the right moves - a great one for the revival clubs and Mod meets.
The vinyl is in VG++ shape - a great player and sounds excellent!
The matt black and silver lables are NEAR MINT, clean and distinct
