There are a few things that make this album a reall collectible, besides from the fact that it is fairly rare. First, The Unbeatables were led by Gene Cornish who traded in his membership in Joey Dee and the Starlighters to front this band, and only a year later would find huge success as a member of the Young Rascals. Then there is radio station WMCA's dj B. Mitchell Reed who can be found on nearly every track, introducing the band and
exhorting the raging crowd to more screaming and applause on nearly every track. (Truth be told, it has been said that the crowd was overdubbed, likely from rabid fans at Beatles shows.) Speaking of the Beatles, Cornish wrote a song which appears on this album called "I Wanna Be a Beatle," kind of putting The Unbeatables in the wanna-be Beatle band category. Also, their song "Oh! Misery" sounds a bit like George Harrison's "Don't Bother Me". The rest of the material is a cross between whitebread R&B and Jersey doo-wop, but executed pretty well, even though somewhat derivative. Then there is the fact it was recorded live at Palisades Amusement Park (immortalized in the Chuck Barris penned hit song sung by Freddie "Palisades Park") a top performing venue for club bands on their way up. It also happened to be the best amusement park in New Jersey back in the day.

So now for the downside - condition. Cover = VG with some staining, and a 3/4" split at the open end top and bottom. Vinyl = VG to VG- visually, but has been completely play-tested and sounds nearly VG+. (Some surface noise, mostly at the beginning, no skips or untoward incidents.) All things considered, this isn't a bad deal for the price.
