In 1958 San Antonio high school friends Sunny Ozuna and Manny Guerra formed a six-piece R&B band known as the Sunglows. Their novel mix of blues, R&B, tejano, and mariachi, along with a Hammond organ as a substitute for the traditional accordion, revolutionized the West Side Sound. Signing on with "Crazy Cajun" Huey Meaux in 1963, the band hit the big time with "Talk to Me" on the Tear Drop label.
Sunny Ozuna then formed the Sunliners, recruiting organist Little Henry Lee, guitarist Rudy Palacios guitar, and bassist Chente Montes.
