๐ Collector Notes
This is the original 1989 UK 12" release on Silvertone Records, pressed at the height of the Madchester movement.
The full 9:53 mix of Fools Gold became the bandโs defining groove and their commercial breakthrough, reaching No. 8 in the UK charts and establishing The Stone Roses as the leaders of the late-80s indie dance crossover.
Early pressings such as this with the โManufactured in the EECโ credit and A1 / AA1 matrices are sought-after for their authentic sound and collectability.
Later UK represses (1990 onwards) feature different font spacing and a โMade in the UKโ rim text โ this copy predates those and remains the genuine first issue.
๐ง Historical Context
Released on 6 November 1989, Fools Gold perfectly captured the acid-house/indie fusion that defined the end of the decade.
Produced by John Leckie and propelled by Reniโs hypnotic drumming and Maniโs looping bass groove, it cemented the Rosesโ legend. The flip side What The World Is Waiting For was equally revered โ a non-album track that became an instant classic.
Both sides were later compiled on Turns Into Stone (1992), but the 12โ Silvertone ORE T 13 remains the definitive, audiophile cut.
