THE SOFT MACHINE – Volume Two ORIG Probe LP / SPB 1002 (UK, Stereo, 1969)
Here’s an original UK copy of The Softs’ 2nd LP from 1969. It’s on the old black Probe label – so many claim the pink label to be a first press but this black issue came first, ‘Made In Great Britain / Gramophone Co Ltd’ text to the top centre of the label. Matrices A-1G / B-1G.
The single front-laminated, tri-flipback sleeve was made in the UK by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. It’s in a pleasing true VG+ (Very Good Plus) condition with the following signs of age: some light handling and light ring impression to the rear . Overall a nicely preserved example which maintains excellent shape and colour with no splits, tears, stickers, great spine with all text legible and not much softening of the opening edges.
The 1969 black Probe labels are in excellent condition – no writing, scrapes or dirt and only very light spindle evidence
The medium weight vinyl is in overall VG+ (Very Good Plus) condition visually with two hairlines to side one. very light and superficial and really only noticeable under bright light Side 2 shows little marking and looks more like an EX. However, there are NO deep or nasty scratches, no scrapes and no embedded dirt. IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays Excellent throughout with no snap or crackle no nasty repetitive clicks or pops and no distortion or loss of clarity/lack of definition. Quite hard to find in its original 1969 UK press.

GRADINGS
MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised, as Sealed or Unplayed will be mint.
EXCELLENT The record shows some signs of having been played, possibly with light surface marks but there will be very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD + The record may have scuff marks and signs of some wear but will still play almost perfectly throughout, with only barely detectable crackles or pops. A slight noise at the beginning is allowable, but the remainder must be nearly flawless. Definitely no scratches or gouges that a touch with a dry finger can feel. The cover may only have the slightest signs of normal wear.
VERY GOOD The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
