THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING’ – Val Bennett / ‘SIR LEE’S WHIP’- Lester Sterling
Island WI-3146, 1968
2 top Rock Steady instrumentals on the Island label – ‘The Russians are Coming’ is a cover of Dave Brubeck’s jazz classic ‘Take Five’ & the B-side is a rare tune from Lester Sterling. Produced by the great Bunny Lee.
Condition – as you can see, this is an ex-sound system 45 – the label has been defaced on both sides, with some handwritten lettering. Lots of fine surface marks and some lighter-coloured areas (de-lacquering?) but both sides play OK with some surface noise, no jumps or skips. Identified via Discogs.com as all the identifying marks have been removed.

I’m not a dealer - I’ve collected Jamaican records since the 1960s and I’m now selling all my Ska/Rock Steady/Reggae/Dub vinyl, including more real rarities…watch this space!
Testing: all my records have been played (and some of the rarest converted to digital) on an ION USB turntable. This is the only turntable I have and therefore my only way of testing vinyl.
Grading: I’m not familiar with the dealers’ vinyl grading system, but I will do my best to give an honest description of the condition, appearance and sound quality of my vinyl.
Any problems at all will be sorted out – I have 100% positive feedback and always do my best to keep the customer satisfied.
