MEGA RARE THE ROYAL BALLET-Gala Performances (conducted by Ernest Ansermet) MINT

MEGA RARE TRULY AWESOME CONDITIONED RE-ISSUE MINT MINT

Hi and a BIG thank you for your time to view my items.

Please before you are interested in bidding would you/could you take the time to read my Terms & Conditions.
You will find them at the bottom of my listing and unless I have mis-written them I believe they are quite clear.
If they are not then email me before bidding.

I’m not here to have an open debate or argument with anyone in the Ebay community, whether they be a professional or amateur seller or collector but over my collecting years there is always an element of surface or background noise/sound with audio reproduction on vinyl reproduction, I have purchased sealed audiophile heavyweight pressings that have suffered from some surface noise and in the very odd case were totally unplayable. I have purchased sealed records straight from the factory and these have suffered some degree of surface noise, it’s inherent in the pressing of vinyl and the way it is produced.
All used vinyl has at least light marks and surface scratches which are always visible when viewed under a bright light, ( in my opinion a scratch is one that can be actually felt and not a mark caused by the LP-LP's being taken out to be played.) my advice would be to stick to CD if you are after total blackout silence or are after glass like perfection. Myself I believe surface noise adds to an emotional experience of reality which can not be matched by CD only my opinion

All the records (LP’s and 7 inch singles) that I intend to put onto Ebay for sale are 2nd hand either my own or have been given to me and have in many cases been played, some more than others. But I will always highlight this fact when grading, if the vinyl has surface marks or other defects these will be pointed out also.

I’m very sorry but I don’t always have time to play grade every single item, and the majority of my grading is done by purely visual means, so please view my feedback and you will see that I try to give the best account on the condition of any item I put up for auction.

This is my hobby and not my profession.

I will though play LP’s, and singles that are very collectable to get a better insight to the playing condition of the item being sold for auction.

I will never play/sound grade coloured vinyl or picture discs, they were made as limited edition collector's items only and the vinyl used to do this was of a lower quality. They will more likely have crackle and pop with background noise. They were made only to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, rather than have audiophile sound quality.
Now I accept that the above may differ from any winning bidders perception of what I have graded. I cannot always vouch for whether every record plays all the way through in total black silence with no noise. If you have any doubts then please email me or again just view my feedback.

The Royal Ballet - Gala Performances (1957) (Classic/RCA LDS-6065 180g) 24-bit/96kHz Vinyl

Classic Records/RCA LDS-6065 (1994) 180g 2 LP RTI Pressing mastered by Bernie Grundman
The Royal Ballet - Gala Performances has historically been the most highly sought after of the RCA Living Stereo releases.

Recorded in London's Kingsway Hall in 1957 by the legendary Kenneth Wilkinson, this title features selections from The Nutcracker Suite, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty among others. The performances are conducted by Ernest Ansermet directing the Royal Opera House Orchestra and the sonics are incomparable.

This is the stuff of which dreams are made. The Royal Ballet Gala is one of the finest RCAs recorded in London's Kingsway Hall. The chunks of great ballet music are well served by orchestra, conductor and engineer. Performances are executed to a very high standard - the Royal Opera House Orchestra, both then and now, rank as one of the finest of opera orchestras. In fact, their celebrated status could live on indefinitely by virtue of their great RCAs!

Conductor Ansermet keeps the pace moving, giving the listener the impression of a dance event rather than a dramatic concert hall reading. With the exception of some of the Tchaikovsky scenes, the music is light and remains so under Ansermet's gentle touch. Each ballet is given full attention by the players, something not always attained at Covent Garden during long ballet nights! The threat of eternity does have its merits.

The recorded sound is simply amazing! Lustrous is one word that comes to mind, accurate is another. Tonally, Messrs. Williamson and Wilkinson have used their considerable talents to capture the orchestra superbly. Woodwind and strings glow and resonate, transporting this listener to a time when simpler recording was better. Brass ring out thrillingly and percussion effects are very musical. Be it a bang, swish, rattle, crack or snap, each percussionist is situated perfectly within the beautiful Kingsway soundstage. Even the difficult-to-record sound of the celeste is captured in its purely mechanical form. Its delicate sound is heard to great effect during the Nutcracker - originating stage left, the sound decays across the stage of Kingsway with sparkling beauty. Wonderful.

GRADING:
I only grade in line with UK Record Collector grading system as set out in the book, and do not use USA Goldmine grading.  The only difference I make against the Record Collector grading system is I grade a record Mint if its sealed, I do not believe a record to be mint if not sealed. My highest grade for an opened LP is near mint. I grade under a strong light that picks out any imperfections on the vinyl.

If for any reason you disagree with my grading please email me through the ebay message system and lets resolve the matter as adults before leaving negative feedback. Everybody on here believes they are an expert well we are not, we are human and can sometimes get things wrong. If I have got it so wrong I will work with you to resolve it.  I can not be any fairer than that, but please check my feedback you will see I do not get it wrong that often, I try very hard to give an accurate description, apart from the one member who left negative because I would not be subjected to feedback hostaging.
International buyers are responsible for any customs charges incurred.

If an International buyer returns an item it’s very important that you mark return on the customs form because if you do not and I get a letter with a import charge on it I will not pay. This is a return and the LP will simply get sent back to you as Returned Goods are not charged for by UK Customs
Should you wish to return a LP as set out in Ebay policies the buyer is responsible for return postage, this means I pay one way, you the buyer will have to pay the other way.
