Description
The Rolling Stones 'Their Satanic Majesties Request' 1967 original vinyl album on the unboxed Decca turquoise label, catalogue number TXL103 (mono)
The numbers and letters imprinted in the vinyl 'run-off' area are:- Side 1: ARL-8126-1P 2 G KT (there's another letter next to the '2' which looks like an '0', but I can't be certain) Side 2: ARL-8127-P1 2 U KT (there's another letter next to the '2' which looks like a 'D', but I can't be certain)
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE EARLIEST ORIGINAL 'PURE MONO' VERSION NOT THE LATER 'FOLDED DOWN STEREO TO MONO' T2-K VERSIONS
This is a heavy vinyl and it is not warped. When viewed under a bright light I can see a lot of light surface scratches scattered across both sides, most are caused by bag movement but there are also some small scuffs and light stylus scratches. I can only feel one of them on Side 1 towards the end of track 4 and one other on Side 2, track 3 - these do cause a few ticks that I noticed, but nothing nasty. Apart from this the record plays clearly, albeit with some occasional light crackle and surface sound which is only really noticeable if you are close to the speakers - in 'open play' it is not very distracting and although there is some deterioration of the sound quality, it is not significant. There are no sticks, no skips, no jumps.
The track titles can be seen on the label photographs. The labels have quite a lot of light spindle lines, but no writing, no damage.
The cover is a gatefold type, the front, spine and back are coated with a clear laminate and it has a 3D plaque pasted on the front with a group image. THIS IS A MONO DEDICATED GATEFOLD FEATURING THE MONO CATALOGUE NUMBER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SPINE AND IN A BOX IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE COVER. The front surface is in excellent condition, just slight edge burring and two small creases - one in the bottom right hand corner and one in the top right corner. The back is almost perfect, just a few tiny edge creases and slight wear to the top left and bottom left corners. The centre piece is almost as new and the maze appears untouched.
The spine is near mint, almost as new.
The inner sleeve is the red and white 'smoke' original. It has separated a little on the right seam and along the bottom seam at some point in the past, but it has been carefully repaired (not with tape) and the repairs are barely noticeable. The open edge has a few tiny tears and a little light fraying and overall there is some light superficial creasing - but this is a useable and presentable inner.
I have checked the Record Collector grading system and I would say that the gatefold is 'excellent+', the vinyl is visually 'very good' and the audio is 'very good+'. Overall not for the vinyl and audio perfectionists but it is a highly presentable and enjoyably playable example of this classic album with an outstanding original 3D gatefold and a decent inner.
I have described this as carefully and honestly as possible, but it is a no return item so please bid accordingly.
It will be packed in a strong record mailing box with two pieces of card inside for further protection.
