I recently acquired a stunning Rolling Stones collection and I will listing them over the next 2/3 months.  The vinyls are in superb condition as are the covers.

The Rolling Stones : Their Satanic Majesties Request 4K / 7K 2nd Stereo Press

This classic Stones LP plays with superb audio and no interference.  As always I have played every track in full and I can confidently say the clarity, depth and power of the audio is of the highest standard.  It is often said the stereo version does not play as well as the original mono but the sonic quality here is very impressive indeed and that is precisely because the vinyl has hardly been played and has been so well preserved over the decades.  This is without doubt a FINAL UPGRADE version.

The iconic lenticular cover is in great condition with only very minimal wear and the red psychedelic inner has just one small tear on the top edge, no side splits for once!

I think it's safe to say that this is a second stereo pressing.  It has the second label design according to the stonesondecca site and has a relatively early matrix also and the lenticular cover of course.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with obvious marks or scratches.  All I can see under a bright light are a handful of ultra faint sleeve removal hairlines and some very faint 'specks' over a couple of small areas, a kind of mottling but so faint and hardly worth a mention!  The run out grooves have some very minor fading and the KT tax code can clearly be seen.  The green / grooved labels are super clean with barely any spindle wear.

Play grading

The piano intro on 'Sing This All Together' plays with wonderful clarity and the opening vocal section is just as impressive.  The 'psychedelic' mid instrumental plays perfectly with not even a dust tick let alone anything more and the final vocal is of the same high end standard.  A superb Mint start to this classic album...well I think it is anyway!

'Citadel' plays with great power from the very first note to the end of the fade out.  Stunning sonic quality!  Each section plays so clearly and the brief silent section gives an example of the clarity on offer here, it is totally silent.  No ticks, clicks, pops or static this is Mint all the way.

The intro on 'In Another Land' is perfect and Wyman's opening vocal and chorus are equal to that.  It continues to play with incredible clarity and his end 'snore' has no background either!  Mint

The intro on '2000 Man' is 'as new' as is Jagger's opening vocal.  The first chorus plays with real depth and power - it's often said the stereo version does not play with the same depth and warmth as the mono version which I do tend to agree with but that is certainly not the case during the chorus here.  To be fair the entire track plays with a depth and definition that to my ears is very impressive.  From start to finish there is no interference and Mint is again deserved.

The quiet intro on 'Sing This All Together (See What Happens)' is perfect i.e. not even a solitary dust tick.  As the music comes in the clarity does not falter and it progresses in the same way.  You could not wish to find a cleaner version as there is literally no intrusion on the audio.  Running at over 8 minutes it plays with STUNNING clarity through every section including the end vocal.  The silent section has no background and the final 'instrumental' plays perfectly.  This is Mint no need for a minus even!

The Carnival Barker intro on 'She's A Rainbow' has no interference and the piano intro then plays with impeccable clarity also.  This sonic quality is kept up through every vocal and instrumental section I just cannot fault it.  Hopkins' piano is such a large part of this classic and it plays so clearly with no intrusion.  A classic track and I cannot overstate just how well it plays and Mint is 100% deserved.

The segue into 'The Lantern' is perfect and the tolling bell (twice!) sounds like it was pressed only yesterday!  It then plays with imperious quality from then onwards and once again I am so impressed by the stunning clarity of sound.  There are a few quiet sections and yet the sound is so clean and 'fresh'.  I 'picked up' a couple a couple of very quiet ticks but if you're not listening carefully you won't notice them they are that quiet!  I will grade as Mint- but even that seems a little harsh!

'Gomper' then plays with unrivalled quality from start to finish.  The opening vocal section is flawless and the psychedelic instrumental could not play with any greater precision.  There is nothing that detracts from the audio - not a Stones classic I guess but you can't fault the quality on offer here!  The long fade out is 'as new' also.  Mint

The intro on '2000 Light Years From Home' has no intrusion - difficult not to repeat myself here!  Jagger's opening vocal is just as strong and from then on it plays with sublime clarity and depth.  Turning the bass up obviously helps with this and from the first note to the last the playback is superb even during the quieter sections.  A genuine psychedelic classic and Mint is again an honest appraisal of the audio.  Wow what a version!

'On With The Show' ends the album with superlative audio throughout.  No ticks, clicks, pops or static this is pure Mint audio with no inner groove distortion either.

In summary this very early stereo pressing plays to the highest standard possible and easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE album in my opinion.  There is no interference and only a couple of barely audible statics!  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is very impressive for a stereo pressing and it's not often you find a 'Satanic...' as stunning as this as I generally find they have been heavily played.  That is not the case here and the sonic quality delivers on every level.

The Lenticular Gatefold & Red Inner Sleeve

The laminated cover is in great condition with only minimal shelf wear and has retained its original shape and structure so well which is actually quite rare.  The top edges are super clean and only the bottom edge of the back cover has very minimal rubbing but nothing that you immediately notice.  The spine is more or less perfect with only very minor wear on the corners and the other corners have only slight wear.  The opening edge has no handling wear at all.  The front cover has only minor creasing in the top and bottom right hand corners and the 3D image remains 100% attached to the cover.  The back cover is superb with just one tiny barely visible 'rub' in the lower left corner and the inside of the gatefold is for once immaculate with no marking.  A fine example overall.

The red psychedelic inner very rarely has no side splits and has just one small tear on the 'thumb notch' area.  It is unmarked and has barely any creasing.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with Rega Carbon Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
