Description

THE ROLLING STONES, Blue Decca box sleeve, 1964 UK mono debut LP.

LK 4605, original UK Red unboxed mono, grooved Decca record labels.

An early UK mono copy of The Rolling Stones debut LP from 1964.

A UK album in original condition, featuring

1. an unusual ‘Blue Decca box’ to the front top, right corner of the sleeve. Regular sleeves have a ‘Black Decca box’. Only a very small number of these mis pressed ‘Blue Decca box’ sleeves were printed so they are very hard to find,

2. another unusual feature of this record is on side two of the record, as the letters, ‘SM A’ are engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove,

There are a number of interesting errors / inconsistencies printed on the record labels / sleeve:

a. on the record label and on the sleeve, side one, track four, it features the incorrect track title of, ‘I Need You Baby’, this track title should have been printed as, ‘Mona’,

b. on the record label on side one, the ‘writers credit’ for the track, ‘Honest I Do’ is printed incorrectly as, ‘Hurran and Calvert’. But on the sleeve the ‘writers credit’ is printed correctly as, ‘Reed’,

c. on the rear of the sleeve, within the sleeves notes, the track, ‘Can I get a witness’ has been mis printed as, ‘Can’t I get a witness’,

d. on the rear of the sleeve, within the sleeves notes, the track, ‘You can make it if you try, appears as just, ‘You can make it’,

3. on side two, track three, ‘Tell Me’, 4.06 mins, on the end ‘fade out’, the audio ends abruptly !,

4. original UK 1964 Red Decca ‘ridged’ mono record labels,

5. earliest ‘mother’ of, ‘1’ on side one,

6. comes with its original period ‘Decca’ inner sleeve.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. The laminate has retained and excellent super unspoilt glossy finish. The two opening edges of the sleeve have remained clean and sharp. The spine is in excellent condition and has remained clean, white and straight and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The rear of the sleeve has remained clean and white in colour for its age. There are NO splits, pen writing, tears, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original UK period, ‘Decca’ inner sleeve. The two opening edges have remained clean and unworn, an excellent clean original inner sleeve. Theres NO pen writing, splits, tears, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve.

THE RECORD: side one is in near excellent condition, side two is in excellent+ condition. The record has remained very dark and glossy.

The records matrix is: XARL 6271 2A and XARL 6272 4A,

The mother / stampers are: side one, 1 CM’, I think it is, also the letters ‘KT’ are engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove. Side two, ‘31 MM’, I think it is, also the letters ‘KT’ are engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove.

THE AUDIO: side one plays very good++, with some ‘crackle’, I did hear a couple of light ‘ticks’ on the ‘intro’ to track one. Side two, I did hear some light ‘ticks’ on the second half of track four, so I will grade this as very good, the rest of side two plays very good++ with some ‘crackle’. The record plays with a full, loud period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE RECORD LABELS: each of the record labels are in excellent condition, each of the record labels have some ‘spindle’ trails. Each of the record labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
