Description
The Rolling Stones 1A / 4A
This is one immaculate vinyl! It has been preserved beautifully and has only ever been played two, three times at most. The record is absolutely pristine and I have never seen cleaner!
It may be a later boxed version on the red Decca label but these were pressed between '70 and '72 and indeed the original inner has 2-71 printed on one side so is still very near 50 years of age! You will not find a more fantastic looking vinyl or cover - it is no exaggeration to say they both look 'as new'!

Visual grading
As you may have gathered this vinyl is visually stunning and retains a jet black mirror-like glossy sheen that you hardly ever see on records of this age. Whilst looking under a strong bright light I can only make out a handful of mega faint and barely noticeable sleeve removal hairlines and it is obvious it has hardly ever been removed from its sleeve. The run out grooves and labels are immaculate and there are only a couple of tiny traces of spindle wear on each side. You could not find a more pristine example than this!
Play grading
'Route 66' quite simply plays 'as new' from start to finish with no 'background' of any kind. There is not even a dust tick let alone anything more! I know Mint- audio when I hear it and this is it!
With complete silence in the dead wax 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' then plays to the same standard with that familiar tinny sound that you get on this track. There are no clicks or pops and no static or crackle and an example of the supreme clarity is the fade out which plays to perfection.
'Honest I Do' again plays with unbelievable clarity and depth. I have no hesitation in also grading this as Mint- the playback could not be improved in any way.
The familiar refrain of Richards' guitar on the 'I Need You Baby' plays with breathtaking clarity and not even a dust tick! From that point on this classic plays with a definition that is second to none. You can hear each note so clearly as if the vinyl was only pressed yesterday! The long fade out is 'as new' there is no other way to describe it! So far the clarity on this side cannot be faulted and how often can you say that about a near 50 year old record!
Again 'Now I've Got A Witness' plays with immaculate Mint- precision. The strong bass sound is very much to the fore here because the record has been so beautifully preserved down the decades.
'Little By Little' ends the side with great clarity once more although (shock horror!) there is one faint click after 25 seconds. There is also a little inner groove distortion that you always find on this track but that is to be expected of course. The fade out is again 'as new'.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Without wishing to sound repetitive 'I'm A King Bee' on S2 plays to the same exacting standard as S1. There is not so much as a dust tick and I am happy to grade this as Mint- again.
'Carol' has no interference and only a little distortion. This is a common feature with this 'high octane' track and cannot be classed as interference as this is how it always plays. It is a still a stunning version. Another Mint fade out!
The quiet acoustic intro on 'Tell Me (You're Coming Back)' has to be heard to be believed! It plays with CD like 'cleanliness' but without the warmth and depth that vinyl brings. Every quiet section on this classic plays with stunning precision as does the remainder of the track! It is so rare for albums of this age to play with such impeccable clarity!
'Can I Get A Witness' and 'You Can Make It If You Try' both play so 'cleanly' and...no clicks, pops, static or crackle. They are Mint- without question.
'Walking The Dog' ends the album with no interference but just a little more inner groove distortion. This has to be accepted as a given though because this is just how these mono records play there is no avoiding it.
In summary this FINAL UPGRADE ARCHIVE album is of a standard that you rarely hear today. Every lead in and fade out play with the same superb precision and that applies to the dead wax between every track also. One look at the fantastic visual quality of the vinyl and you are not surprised at how well it plays and it is obvious this record has hardly ever seen a turntable! The minus is only used on the grading soas to adhere to RC guidelines! The clarity and depth is phenomenal and this is by far the 'cleanest' boxed red Decca vinyl I have ever seen. The cover is also fabulous condition - this is a timewarp classic!
The Cover
The laminated 'Clarifoil' cover printed by 'MacNeill' is absolutely stunning! It is so clean and has no real wear at all! The edges and spine are 'as new' with no rubbing or marking and the corners are also in sublime condition with no wear worthy of mention. There is only the slightest amount of feathering on the opening edge but it really is very minimal. The front cover is immaculate with no laminate creasing and the back cover is just as good with none of the usual marking that you so often see. This is a superb example of this early cover and it has been incredibly well preserved down the decades. Wow!
Inner Sleeve
The original inner has no splits or tears, hardly any creasing and no age related fading. It has probably hardly ever been removed from the cover!
The Labels
The boxed red labels have lost none of their original colour and are as close to Mint as is possible! With only a couple of mega tiny spindle traces they could hardly look any better. Fantastic examples.
