Description

This is one of the great post-punk rarities - The Return of the Durutti Column LP by the Durutti Column, housed in its original sandpaper sleeve.
This legendary sleeve was famously glued together by the members of Joy Division - or to be more precise, they were put together by Ian Curtis whilst the rest of the band watched a blue movie! The sleeve was Tony Wilson's concept based on the Situatuationist idea that the record would destroy all the others that were placed next to it.
Because all of these sleeves were put together by hand (it is basically a plain white sleeve with 2 pieces of sandpaper pasted to each side) all of the sleeves are slightly different, and most have blemishes where the sandpaper doesn't quite cover all the cornes and edges, or there is some rippling, or the white sleeve got scuffed. This one is no different - please see the pics to get a good idea. If anybody wants further info on condition or more pics then please ask.

There were a number of slightly different versions of this sleeve. This is the one with the plain sandpaper sleeve - ther is no spray painting on either side. It does not include a flexidisc, and the vinyl is pressed on plain black vinyl - not translucent red.
VInyl matrix numbers are Side 1: S-6 FACT 14 4PBG A1 SOUND CLINIC EG and Side 2: S-3 FACT 14 PBG B1 EG. Beacause this is the first pressing of teh LP there are only 5 tracks on Side 2 - the later reissue has 6 tracks on that side.

UK BUYERS PLEASE NOTE THAT I CAN NOW SEND UP TO 6 LPs OR 12"s FOR THE SAME PRICE AS ONE - JUST £3.50!!!

Condition (please note that I use the Record Collector Grading System to rate the condition of records and covers - see below, but please contact me if you wish to clarify):

Record - EX (a nice clean copy. The only slight blemish is some light discolourations on the labels)

Cover - VG+ (it's hard to rate these sleeves as they were handmade and as a result do have blemishes. However, there is some light wear on the right hand opening edge, and inside the sleeve are 2 marks which look like the type of mark left when removing sellotape. I have included pictures of these)

Record Grading System

MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised, as Sealed or Unplayed will be mint.

EXCELLENT The record shows some signs of having been played, possibly with light surface marks but there will be very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
