1980 war ein seltsames Jahr für Punks, denn viele Bands waren bereits auf der Strecke geblieben, und diejenigen, die die erste Welle überlebt hatten, schienen darum zu kämpfen, eine Art kommerzielle Akzeptanz zu finden. Sowohl Public Image als auch The Clash brachten in diesem Jahr Alben heraus, die in jeder Hinsicht einen Bruch mit der Vergangenheit signalisierten.
THE RAMONES „End Of The Century“, ihr fünftes Album,produziert von Phil Spector, sollte ihr großes Durchbruchsalbum werden, aber ironischerweise hatten die Ramones mit ihrem vorherigen Album und „I Wanna Be Sedated“ einen größeren Hit. Nichts desto trotz ist dies ein gutes Album,das ich damals nicht zu schätzen wusste, das sich aber gut hält, mit Songs wie„I'm Affected“ und „Danny Says“ und „I Can't Make It On Time“, die eine andere Seite der Band zeigen.
Die Platte ist fast neuwertig.
1980 was a weird year for punks, as many bands had already fallen by the wayside and those that had survived the initial wave seemed to be struggling to gain some kind of commercial acceptance. Both Public Image and The Clash put out albums that year that, for all intents and purposes, signalled a break with the past.
THE RAMONES "End Of The Century, their fifth album, was produced by Phil Spector. This was supposed to be their big breakthrough album, but the Ramones ironically scored a bigger hit with their previous album, and "I Wanna Be Sedated." Nonetheless this is agood album which I didn't appreciate at the time but which holds up well, with songs like "I'm Affected," "Danny Says," and "I Can't Make It On Time" all showing a different side of the band.The record is near-mint.
