Description

Here's a 1967 STEREO PRESSING of THE 13th FLOOR ELEVATOR'S LP  - THE PSYCHEDELIC SOUNDS OF on the INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS LABEL. CAT#LP-IA -1.  Roky Erickson and the 13th Floor Elevator's are considered the granddaddy's of psych rock, and largely because of this LP.  It may or may not have been the first psych LP in rock, but it's influence was fast and huge in psych circles.  They advocated the use of LSD on the back cover, and insisted that it would lead to higher consciousness.  This LP was the first to coin the term Psychedelic rock. The 13 in their name has also been attributed to the letter M, the 13th letter in the alphabet.  M standing for Marijuana.  This all added to the mystique of the band.  The first run of these LPs reported sold just 40,000 copies.  That puts the rarity factor of these LPs in line with the first Velvet Underground album.  On top of that, the fans of this record were smashed out of their minds, and the care of their LPs was probably not front of mind...
This is the Stereo copy with 4 columns of text on the back bottom cover.  I know people hold the mono copy in higher regard, and I don't quite get it.  The stereo copy gives me sounds emanating from different sides of the room. It's more engaging, and interesting to listen to this in stereo, IMO.
This copy is pristine.  It's perfect in every way.  The cover is beautiful, NEAR MINT with just a hint of ring wear, small corner ding bottom right, and small seam wear top and bottom. That wear is minimal, but noted here.  spine is perfect. The Vinyl plays perfectly, The labels are beautiful.  It plays NEAR MINT.   A top copy- holy grail- very difficult to find one like this.
