ORIGINAL UK FONTANA (TL 5425) FIRST *MONO* PRESSING (May 1967) OF THE PRETTY THINGS' SENSATIONAL THIRD LP "Emotions!" - THE ORCHESTRATION ON THE LP CAUSED MUCH DEBATE AT THE TIME (AND INDEED, STILL DOES) AS IT WAS ADDED WITHOUT MUCH INVOLVEMENT FROM THE BAND (AT THE LABELS INSISTENCE) - BUT PERSONALLY I THINK IT WORKS PERFECTLY

In accordance with their label's (and not the band's) wishes, the Pretties were teamed with an orchestra directed by Reg Tilsley on this album, which saw the Phil May-Dick Taylor songwriting team making an effort to move beyond R&B into more sophisticated territory.
Sometimes the arrangements (dubbed onto tracks without much involvement from the group) worked; more often, they were unnecessary.
But the album contains some genuinely top-rank originals that saw the group expanding their vision into social observation and tentative psychedelia, including "My Time," "The Sun," and especially the moody, folk-rock-ish "Death of a Socialite."

LABELS: The labels are clean and unmarked with moderate spindle wear (please see close-up photos) - well played but not over-played
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces still retain their original deep, glossy sheen but there are marks consistent with its frequent use - only one of these marks is feel-able to the touch (but it has minor audio consequence), visually VG+
VINYL Audio: Superb MONO cut with a crystal clear, deep, rich vibrant sound - very fresh, up-front and immediate audio delivery - sounds great. On playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, but there are some occasional, isolated pops which do rise above background level (mostly on Side One, hardly any on Side Two) - but nothing continuous and nothing I found particularly intrusive as the audio quality is otherwise, outstanding (there is no surface noise/crackle - apart from on the run-ins) and the LP plays very, very well indeed with no distortion and no discernible groove-wear. I will therefore, very critically graded the audio as VERY GOOD (Side One) / VERY GOOD+++ (Side Two) - not perfect by any means but still a very, very nice original 1967 copy and this is a rare LP - you won't be disappointed
SLEEVE: The original front laminated sleeve is in VERY GOOD++ condition with no unwanted writing. The front laminate has a deep gloss with very little rubbing and the untreated back is pretty clean with no damage to the flipback sections. The edges are crisp and sharp and all text on the spine is clear and bold. There is some 'feathering' to the opening edge, but it's minor - a very nice example
