Vivante U.K. PRESSING (Finest European Quality) 180 Gram Limited Edition classic LP high-definition Virgin Heavy Vinyl pressing for superior fidelity - Britain's POLICE got its start in the late 70s days of punk, but the trio's background in jazz, fusion, and rock belied the punky image suggested by the bands dyed-blond hair. Indeed, where many punks were inspired amateurs, the Police (Sting on bass and vocals, Andy Summers on guitar, and Stewart Copeland on drums) were accomplished players who quickly developed a sophisticated approach to the power-trio format.

The material constructed with guitar, bass and drums often at tempos that would never be matched in their later studio recordings, stands apart. Andy Summers? guitar textures are here more traditional and without their later ethereal quality, but his chord choices on ROXANNE for example, or his expansive solo lines on SO LONELY would have baffled most of the burgeoning punk guitar school. Stewart Copeland?s drumming, enriched as it is by a multinational upbringing and stage experience in the last gasps of the progressive-rock movement. The rhythms of reggae are woven into the music and Sting's vocals pay conscious tribute to Bob Marley. The songs are mostly about love, or a lack of personal connection and the hits alone are worth the price of the album.

Synchronicity 180 GRAM LIMITED AUDIOPHILE EDITION TREMENDOUSLY RARE PRESSING NOW

Track Listings - Bias - Synchronicity was the first rock album I ever received (alongside of VH 1984) and it blew me away then, as it still does now.
The biggest thing that hit me - after purchasing the LP years after I lost the tape - is how well the production fits the music. Everything is so lush, its like stepping into infinite sonic space while bumping into pieces of sound floating all around you. The depth of this album is amazing. It, like Peter Gabriel's _Security_, was made for LP.
The songs - To me the only throwaway is "Murder by Numbers" - the definitive version of that song was done by Zappa on the "Broadway the Hard Way" (with Sting at the helm, of course). I think Summers is too clean and sloppy for this song to work. I love the arpeggiated riffing by Summers on "Miss Gradenko", and I must be the one person that loves the swirling, arabesque "Mother" - primarily because when you break down the music, its turns out to be a very cleverly disguised 12-bar blues riff! Such is the majesty of this album.
The best songs for your hi-fi have to be "Walking in Your Footsteps" and "Synchronicity II". The former sparkles and tantalizes with strange percussive synth noises (why does everything on this album sound so different from every synth-pop band of the same time frame? Its still modern after almost 15 years). The latter, a grungy, daring escape into pure musical darkness, is the best performance of the Police's - and especially Andy Summers' - careers. The feedback "guitar solo" and the ripping 16-th note solo that fades in at the end of this track are utterly gripping.
The best part about this album though, if you are a gloomy gus like me, is the lyrical work by Sting. The images in "King of Pain" stick with you long after the music leaves your mind - "A skeleton choking on a crust of bread" is my favorite. You don't have to be some erudite Jungian analyst to appreciate the sense of lyrical foreboding in "Synchronicity II" - the polemic dedicated/dessicating the the suburbanite animal is bitter and acidic in its exactness and realism. What does old Nessie have to do with Dad and Grandmother screaming at the wall? I don't know, I still don't know, but the song still sends a shiver up my spine 15 years after I first heard it.
Its a bona fide classic, like Zeppelin IV. Unlike that album though, repetitive play and ultimately time doesn't diminish its power. If you love music you simply must own this album. It is the definitive rock statement of the 80s, and one of the best rock albums ever made

From one spin of THE DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLES, Sting’s first solo release in 1985, it’s obvious that for him there would be life beyond The Police. Teamed with a band of top jazz players, he presents his musical visions that had gone unrealized while he was still constrained by his former ensemble. In style and subject matter, it’s a decidedly diverse collection of songs and the playing is excellent throughout. The love songs are mostly focused on endings or escapes, and it’s quite possible to interpret much of the imagery in reference to the bitter breakup of Police.

Obsessive fans have already written to rock magazines indignantly pointing out the omission of this or that obscurity. But everyone else will find that these four discs include all the Police they'd ever want to own. The first two discs include all of Outlandos d'Amour, Reggatta de Blanc, and Zenyatta Mondatta in their original order, interspersed with live rarities and singles B-sides. Discs 3 and 4 are more satisfying, including the band's well-crafted studio high points, Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity, plus more outtakes and live tunes. The set ends with "Don't Stand So Close to Me '86," a dismal remake of the early favorite. By this point, the musician's egos were running rampant and they were barely speaking. If anyone wonders why the group called it quits so abruptly, this tune makes it clear that the split was smart and timely.
