Description
This is the original 1971 Capitol Records, ST-791, vinyl LP "THE PERSUASIONS: WE CAME TO PLAY". The vinyl LP and original protective paper sleeve are in nice condition and the signed album cover has aged with a frayed edge and is quite rare, signed and inscribed all over the album cover by all five of the original Persuasions.
Jayotis Washington (he signed "Thank You and your staff, Jayotis") is the only original member of the group still with us as, sadly, four of the original Persuasions have passed on. In addition to Jayotis Washington's autograph, this rare all-five-signed cover has the signatures of tenor Joseph Jesse Russell (he wrote: "How sweet it is, Sweet Joe"), lead vocalist and arranger Jerry Lawson (he wrote: "Thanks, Jerry"), Bass Jimmy Hayes (he wrote: "Good Luck, thank you, Jimmy") and baritone Herbert Rhoad (he wrote: "Peace and love always, Herb"). There is a sixth signature "David", likely the record's producer, Dave Dashev, or the album designer and photographer David Coleman. The Persuasions' messages and autographs follow the inscription: "For Rick & N.E.M.C. Folk" (possibly the New Jersey-based National Educational Music Company).
The Persuasions were a magnificent a capella group, and many famous pop groups, such as Boyz II Men, Rockapella, Take 6 and the Nylons cite the Persuasions as major musical influences. Re-issued some 12 times since 1971, this is the first version of a classic Persuasions album and it is signed by all of the original group members.
