Original 1968 first pressing by the powerfully delicious Peanut Butter Conspiracy...firing on ALL cylinders at the time of this 2nd LP, the band is often mistaken to be part of the "San Francisco Sound" because of similarities in sound and style to the mighty AIRPLANE, however, the PBC deliver rich infectious self compositions that keep getting better with each play.
The songs are steeped deep in the San Fransisco sound- part psych-part acid rock pastoral folkrock mixes from the golden age of underground rock. For psych summer of love sixties fans it's a must own. The recording is sonically on par with the best records of the era and about every song is top level with the 'right' sound.
With a name that sticks to both the roof of the mind and the roof of the mouth, L.A.’s Peanut Butter Conspiracy have been described as a “Sunset Stripped-down” version of the Jefferson Airplane—thanks mainly to singer Sandi Robison’s commanding voice and the band’s jangling psychedelic-meets-folk-rock attack (curiously, an early incarnation of the group, the Ashes, had featured future Airplane drummer Spencer Dryden). Under the wing of famed studio guru Gary Usher (Sagittarius), cut two brilliant albums for Columbia, 1967’s The Peanut Butter Conspiracy is Spreading and ’68’s The Great Conspiracy; LP's bearing soaring acid/psych/folk-rock treasures like the singles “It’s a Happening Thing” and “Turn On a Friend (to the Good Life)” and the crashing, harmony-laced “Captain Sandwich.” So spread the word: The Peanut Butter Conspiracy is a happening thing!
