Pls read this:
Born in Chicago, Paris Smith has been a practicing musician since he was a child, having studied piano and reeds before setting upon the vibraphone as his primary concern.
Art Lange, of Down Beat Magazine, aptly describes his vibes work as " ... a chunky, chordal approach unlike the glittering, starstruck single line dazzle of most practitioners."
Assembled for this session are musicians who have played together and know the leader´s work.
Reedman, Jimmy Ellis, an exemplary instrumentalist, has worked with most of the top acts in the music world. He leads his own quartet at Chicago´s festivals and in clubs. Many of the best trained and successful young musicians have studied with Jimmy - including Paris.
Usama Pitts and Tyler Mitchell are excellent rhythm section mates. Their taste and strength make them a couple of the most sought after players on the scene.
Carol Sawall´s multitalents are displayed here. Vocalist, lyricist, painter, she enjoys creating and studying, and lends her own distinctive style to the session.
The music on this album spans a number of years. THOUGHT SEEDS, CATMAN and OWLMAN were part of the repertoire during the early 1970s when Paris, Usama, Carol, and the late sax man, Ken Hill, gigged around under the group name, THE PURPLE CIRCLE QUINTET. The remaining material is of more recent vintage (early 1980s).
**This is YOUR chance to grab one of the rarest and most interesting private jazz recordings - the winner will be very happy to get a wonderful clean copy of this amazing LP!
