Well...hard to know where to begin here isn't it?
This is without question one of the most sought after 45s of all time. The Open Mind's "Magic Potion" on UK Philips.
The last (and,I believe, ONLY) time a copy of "Magic Potion" sold on eBay it was a white 'A' label version and the seller - quite rightly - doubted whether stock copies of this awesome record ever actually existed. This auction finally answers that for collectors everywhere.
Here is a genuine British store-bought copy of The Open Mind's "Magic Potion"/"Cast A Spell" single on the UK Philips label from 1969.
Never has a record warranted it's reputation like this magnificent explosion of fuzz, funk and churning psych rock. Even when it has been reproduced on compilations and even re-released on its own in recent years the sound cannot summon up the full force of the molten original 45. It is purely and simply one of rock music's greatest moments.
And it bombed. Nobody, but nobody, bought it. Except one, or possibly two, clued up old acid heads. Thank God for you buddy, whoever you were, because otherwise I wouldn't have found this in a South London junk shop that day in 1990. And hats off to you for looking after your records so well.
This is a sweet, sweet copy. True Excellent Plus with no actual scratches, no jumps, no marks worth mentioning. A record collecting Excellent in the REAL sense. The vinyl is lush and shining still. That said, even if it were cracked and scarred and beaten where would a collector find another one?
Perhaps the only note is that the original Philips company paper bag is a bit brown and aged but who would want to seperate the pair after all these years? It must have been some trip. That said, I will happily throw in another better late 60s Philips cover for those who want it.
However rest assured this is in no way shape or form an "OK" copy. It is sensational. It is truly one of the great eBay record auctions. This is going to be an exciting and competitive 10 days. Good luck. I hope genuine collectors everywhere can be part of it.
