Description

The first great recording of The Mikado by Gilbert & Sullivan, and some say the best ever. Performed by the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company under Isidore Godfrey and released in 1950. This is the original US release on 11 12" 78rpm discs. It is maybe the largest 78 set I have ever seen! All eleven discs are in very near mint condition. A couple have very minor surface scuffs but they do not affect the play. The whole thing plays perfectly and beautifully. A gorgeous listen. The cover has some general shelf wear, and a big corner ding at the lower right. Some further edge and corner wear, but the spine is fully intact (rare) and the bindIng is solid. This is a great copy for any fan of this wonderful music. Truly a classic recording, and in its best-sounding original and historic form.
