Am 10. Februar 1961 tritt Ella im Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, nur ein Jahr nach ihrem berühmten Konzert in Berlin, erneut vor einem ausverkauften Haus auf. Nach einer nüchternen Vorstellung der Musiker durch Norman Granz betritt Ella die Bühne. Mit der Frische des ewigen, leicht vorlauten kleinen Mädchens stürzt sie sich mit dem ersten Ton in den Rhythmus von "Too Close For Comfort". Die Stimme beruhigt sich, sie nimmt ihr Publikum an die Hand, sanft, selbstsicher. Ella lässt sich auf der Bühne nieder, als wäre sie in ihrem Wohnzimmer. Sie empfängt jeden Zuschauer wie einen privilegierten Gast. Jedes Stück ist ein Glas Champagner, das sie mit Anmut ausschenkt. Manchmal melancholisch, manchmal scherzhaft, meistens aber lachend, dynamisch und eingängig. Eine wahnsinnig erfinderische Ella! Wie Bing Crosby zu sagen pflegte: "Mann, Frau oder Kind, Ella ist die Größte von allen."

On February 10, 1961 at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, just one year after her famous concert in Berlin, Ella found herself once again in front of a packed house. Following a sober presentation of the musicians by Norman Granz, Ella enters the stage. With the freshness of the eternal, slightly impertinent little girl, she propels herself one note into the rhythm of "Too Close For Comfort". The voice settles down, she holds her audience by the hand, softly, surely. Ella settles on stage as if she were in her living room. She welcomes each spectator like a privileged guest. Each piece is a glass of champagne that she offers with grace. Sometimes melancholic, sometimes joking, most of the time laughing, dynamic and catchy. Hilariously inventive Ella! As Bing Crosby used to say: »Man, woman or child, Ella is the greatest of them all«.
