THE KOOBAS

"royston rose"

EMIDISC ACETATE

NEVER RELEASED ON A SINGLE!

This is a most fantastic 'find' !

The KOOBAS are one of the most sought after and respected of the British Beat groups.  They were formed in Liverpool in 1962, played the Hamburg Star club and were signed to The Beatles manager, Brian Epstein, eventually touring with The Beatles themselves.

In 1966 they changed direction from a Merseybeat pop sound.  Signing to Columbia Records they re-emerged as a most amazing psychedelic beat band and were quickly booked to appear alongside Jimi Hendrix and The Who.

They also released an incredibly scarce LP on the UK Columbia Label, original copies of which, sell for around £600!

However, what we have here is the track "Royston Rose" on a seven inch ACETATE single!  This track was never released on a single and only appeared on their LP.  There would only have been a few of these made for the band's management and for the band themselves, this copy may well have belonged to a menber of the actual band!

To remind you, an acetate is a one-off record that is actually cut into wax covering an aluminium disc. These are not pressed but cut individually, that is why very few would have been made.  (you can clearly see the alumium core on a picture.  In common with most acetates, there is no track on the B-side.

I have just played it to test the quality (it plays brilliantly!) and had forgotten what a fantastic track this is, pure power psychedelia!  The drumming (from Tony O'Reilly) is just astounding, a real 100 mile-an-hour bash and then, suddenly a twin fuzz guitar break develops (Stu Leatherwood and Roy Morris) into a screaming extended lead solo playing tricks with the drum beat!  No wonder the album sells for so much!

You may know someone with a more common released single of theirs, you may even know someone with the LP but you will not find anyone with another of these!

I have on auction here another title ("Where are the friends") on an acetate single, equally as rare and desirable.  You can see this if you go to the top right of this listing and click on the line that say view sellers other items

Good luck with this, it is a really exciting piece of British Beat history!

As with other rare items I am listing I would like to tell you a little about me to give you confidence in bidding and to assure you that these are absolutely genuine items. I am the managing director of the world famous BEANOS RECORDS and we have had our shops in South London for over 30 years. I write about rare records, appear on TV and Radio and constantly in the National Press. It is BEANOS LIMITED that are selling this most desirable item but I want to be your contact for any queries and, also, to take away the faceless negotiation that an important international auction can sometimes have. I can tell you everything you need to know about this auction lot if you email me with any questions and, you are welcome to visit our shop and view the actual item (by prior appointment) with myself. I have to point out that most of the goods I offer on eBay are also on sale in my shop and I might have to end an auction early if I have another buyer.
