Description
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. Any significant playing defects will be detailed in the description below. I know how disappointing it is to receive a record graded as excellent, only to find that listening pleasure is spoiled by endless pops, loud clicks and intrusive background crackle. I guarantee that you will not buy such a record from me!!
The winning bidder can expect to receive a clean record, carefully packaged, with the vinyl removed from the inner and outer sleeves to prevent splits in transit.
Here for auction is a superb example of the concept album by THE KINKS titled “THE KINKS ARE THE VILLAGE GREEN PRESERVATION SOCIETY”, Catalogue Number NPL.18233. This is an ORIGINAL 1968 UK MONO *1st PRESSING* on the BLUE PYE RECORDS LABEL with the EARLIEST 1st ISSUE LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE. This is the rarest of The Kinks’ LPs, and is seriously difficult to find in the condition offered here!!
The 1st issue laminated gatefold sleeve is in close to EXCELLENT CONDITION (strictly graded). It is still nice and rigid with very little loss of condition. The front cover is unmarked with just a couple of small light laminate creases near the edges. The back cover is also in excellent shape with only a few tiny creases near the edges. The opening gatefold spread is in excellent unmarked condition. Both flipbacks of the internal record pocket are perfect. The top and bottom edges of the right side of the gatefold sleeve are as new. The right edge is excellent with barely any wear. The edges of the left side of gatefold show just light feathering in places. The corners are nice and square with just light rubbing. The spine is flattened with some flaking to the laminate. All spine text is clearly legible. There is a tiny tear by the bottom spine corner. Overall a lovely example of this fragile 1st Press sleeve!!
The *1st press* record is very solidly pressed and sits flat and true on the turntable. It retains a deep mirror like shine. The matrix numbers are:
SIDE 1 – NPL 18233 A #### 3 ◊ W
SIDE 2 – NPL 18233 B 3 ◊ W
Visually both sides are in EXCELLENT CONDITION with just very light surface marks evident under bright light. These are purely superficial and do not have any audio significance. The beautiful blue Pye labels are unmarked with only a few light spindle traces on each side. There is barely any wear around the spindle hole.
PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:
This is a superb quality pressing! The mono sound delivery is particularly loud and vibrant. Both sides play to a very high standard, with all frequencies crystal clear and a minimum of unwanted noise. There are no skips, pops or loud clicks. Several of the tracks have quiet sensitive passages which are easily spoiled by excessive crackle and surface sound. Not on this example – all play beautifully with very low levels of unwanted noise to spoil the listening experience. A better playing 1st press copy will be very difficult to find!!
Complete with the original white poly-lined inner sleeve, with “Foreign Patents Pending” text at the bottom. This is in EXCELLENT CONDITION with no splits or tears and very little creasing.
1st PRESS MONO EXAMPLES WITH NEAR PERFECT PLAYBACK ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIND, AND DO NOT COME UP FOR SALE VERY OFTEN. DON’T MISS THE OPPORTUNITY!!!
