This is an original FIRST UK VINYL Pressing of the classic 1967 Kinks album - Something Else   The Kinks / Ray Davies' output at this period was nothing short of phenomenal, this is the best album from that era, easily up there with the likes of SGT Pepper - a masterpiece... And yet this is somehow a very rare one..... for a few reasons:-
Firstly, Pye (not the greatest record label in history) released Waterloo Sunset, Death of a Clown and other songs BEFOREHAND!!! - singles being far more popular at the time removed a lot of peoples requirement for the album Secondly, Pye also put out a cheaper compilation album in direct competition with this release Thirdly, Ray Davies punched a promoter when on tour in the US which (along with many other reasons) resulted in a blanket ban on the kinks in the USA In short Pye killed it...as they did most of the Kinks releases   Thus resulting in one of the decades greatest albums by one of the best bands around being overlooked   But we have one here :)   On Pye Records Ref NPL 18193 Matrices are A1//B1 so very 1st pressing!!! Full matrix detail is as follows: Side 1 NMPL (The 'M' is scratched out) 18193 A-1*M - theres a 'KT' hand etched at 11 o clock and a 'B' at 9 o clock Side 2 NMPL (The 'M' is scratched out again) 18193 B-1*M ...then scratched out incorrect matrices MPL 18193 B-1*M...again 'KT' hand etched at around 11 o clock and 'C' at 9 o clock. THEY COME NO EARLIER   The Record: This has quite a few surface marks but none feel like they'll interfere too much so have played all the way through using a Technics 1210 and Bose speakers.  Track by track this is how it breaks down    Side 1: A little static on intro of side 1 David Watts - plays beautifully A little static / light crackle between tracks 1 and 2 Death of a clown  - again, plays great, only minimal crackle / static, no pops or nasty clicks Two Sisters - plays fine though between tracks there are 3 clicks (well timed :D) No Return - Plays Great with minimal crackle, quite a quiet track too. Harry Rag - Plays great! Tin Soldier Man - again, plays great Situation Vacant - Plays great with virtually no impairment    Side 2  A little light static on intro Love me til the sun shines - Plays great, a very small crackle between tracks 1 & 2 Lazy Old Sun - love this track, plays fine, some crackle on the end of the outro / gap Afternoon Tea - Plays great, light crackle on outro Funny Face - plays fine though   IMPORTANT - in the gap between this and the next track theres a small scratch, this jumps but only from the gap on a groove or so to the birds tweeting on the next track   End of the season, intro will click about 10 times or so because of the above  - fine after that  Waterloo Sunset - s'fine ;)   So actually, I'd put this as a VG+ (even with the surface marks) - though do note the above jump.   Audio is pretty special - no doubting the quality of a 1st Press   The vinyl is really nice, thick, heavier type as youd expect  Labels are free from writing / marks though do have spindle wear    The Sleeve: Triple flip back Garrod and Lofthouse original Grades as a VG+ - there are some light creases on the front and a few lights scratches. Back has some very light ringwear and a couple of dents.  Top flip back is slightly unstuck for about the first 2" - I'll leave it as is but super easy to correct. Made of nice thick material so has lasted well. A little shelf wear to top and bottom spines. Side Spine is still nicely readable though a little wear and a couple of creases. Opening has a little wear but NO splits anywhere on this one    Sleeve Design and Art Direction Pye Direction Studios   Inner Sleeve is a plain white poly-lined - no text on it  - slight split at the bottom   So there it is. One of the rarest and sought after albums of the 1960s - this isnt coming up for auction again any time soon so grab it while you can

I use the Record Collector Grading Criteria which is as follows:   Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as sealed or unplayed should be Mint.   Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.   Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.   Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
