2012 EU Record Store Day exclusive 28-track 2-LP, featuring Face To Face on blue-coloured vinyl; presented in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with Mono and Stereo mixes all re-mastered from original tapes by Kinks archivist Andrew Sandoval and sold on April 21 through shops participating in Record Store Day. The booklet was designed by award winning art director Phil Smee, and comes packed with rare and unreleased images from the era. This edition is strictly limited to 500 copies worldwide. An unknown number of copies are individually numbered and allocated to the UK only, while the rest non-numbered quantities distributed across the Europe by Universal.

Face to Face, released in 1966 on Pye Records in the United Kingdom and on Reprise Records in the United States, is the fourth UK studio album by The Kinks. A major artistic breakthrough for Kinks’ songwriter Ray Davies, the LP represents the first full flowering of Davies’ use of narrative, observation, and wry social commentary in his songs. It heralded The Kinks’ move away from the hard-driving rock and roll style of 1964-65, which had catapulted the group to international stardom. It was the first Kinks album consisting entirely of Ray Davies compositions.

Davies seemed to be responding to the overwhelming pressures on him by escaping into stories of the bittersweet existence of ordinary suburban people, their failings, and frustrations. The new style of writing began gradually the previous year with compositions such as “A Well Respected Man” and “Dedicated Follower of Fashion”,

The new album would follow this pattern, as would the group’s recorded output for the next five years. The 1966-1971 period inaugurated by this album would later be called Davies’ and the Kinks’ “golden age”.

This set remains sealed from new in the original manufactur's shrink wrap, and therefore mint and unplayed!. The shrink wrap is still intact with no tears, and the jacket is in excellent condition with no bent corners, cuts, ring wears, creases, seams or other flaws. This is an non-numbered copy. An absolutely stunning copy. See the images to the bottom of the page. Any visible white spots are shine from the lighting and are NOT defects.

The original idea for Record Store Day was conceived by Chris Brown, and was founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally. 

This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet and greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.
