DESCRIPTION: 

Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) is the seventh studio album by The Kinks, released in October 1969. Kinks frontman Ray Davies constructed the concept album as the soundtrack to a Granada Television play and developed the storyline with novelist Julian Mitchell; however, the television program was cancelled and never produced. The rough plot revolved around Arthur Morgan, a carpet-layer, who was based on Ray Davies' brother-in-law Arthur Anning. Arthur... was met with almost unanimous acclaim upon release. It received generous coverage in the US rock press, with articles running in underground magazines such as Fusion and The Village Voice. It garnered back-to-back reviews by Mike Daly and Greil Marcus in Rolling Stone magazine's lead section; Daly rated it as "the Kinks' finest hour", and Marcus went so far as to call it "the best British album of 1969". Reviews in the UK were also positive. Although it received a mixed review in New Musical Express, Disc & Music Echo praised the album's musical integrity, and Melody Maker called it "Ray Davies' finest hour... beautifully British to the core". The album, although not very successful commercially, was a return to the charts in the US for The Kinks, placing on the low end of the top 100. Surprisingly, It failed to chart in Britain. All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

MIX:  This sometimes appears in my title line and refers to a group's/artist's music having a mix of styles such a rock track with jazz then followed by a straight rock track followed by a psych rock track, etc., as opposed to a blues album with the album's tracks having predominantly one style.

$4.50 via USPS media mail for the first single LP or double disc LP set (excluding box sets); this also includes tracking. Add-on items ship for an additional $1 to $1.25, depending on weight. Request an invoice total on multiple item purchases and I will send an invoice with discounted shipping total. If you pay from the automatically generated invoice with full shipping charges per item I will refund the appropriate discount amount to your account.
