Description
This has been owned by me since release in the UK in 1968, though it had lain un-played for several decades until today. Disc 1 [#613008] has Sides A and D, Disc 2 [#613009] has Sides B and C and both discs have duplicated, inverted matrix numbers. The cover has some creasing and a bit of wear at each corner and at each end of the spine, which is otherwise intact [see photo 1]. The blue text and larger pictures of Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding inside the gatefold cover,and original sleeves marked Made in England 108, make this a real collector's item! The item was removed from auction last week so I could evaluate its playing condition, which I have now done. All four record sides have some minor, superficial scratches that result in faint background crackle between tracks and, occasionally, during very quiet phases of some tracks, but there is no warping and just minimal spindle wear. Side B has one slightly deeper scratch about 10 mm long which causes a faintly audible click on Track 3,"Come on" and a similar looking one on Track 1, "Little Miss Strange" that looks as though it should cause a click, but I couldn't hear one. All four sides play well without jumping or skipping. Using the criteria below, I grade it as Very Good.
Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide:
"MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times,but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches,bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler."
