UK original Glass records 1983 debut LP vinyl pressing with glossy cover (Glass Records – GLALP 002). Recorded & Mixed at Starforce Studios Claphan Aug/Sep 82. A-Groove: bad chromosomes, B-Groove: this record belongs to....sound clinic.
Very scarce nowdays, never got reissued on vinyl & the CD version is long out of print also.

FROM THEIR WEBSITE ABOUT IT: (the Butcher says) The one nobody ever talks about, even though a surprising number of you seem to have it. Recorded for just £300 (Kevin Shields please take note...), it's really just the sound of a few mates failing to take seriously the fact they they've got an l.p. to make. Gloop Jiving and the unfinished Sex Engine make me squirm a fair bit, but Zombie Love [listen to Girls Who Keep Goldfish]Girls Who Keep Goldfish and [listen to Partytime]Partytime have all been good friends.
It seems VERY early eighties now, but you must remember that there was a LOT of crap for us to clear out of the way in those days.

A Personal Message From The Jazz Butcher: Well, it's sometime early in the big work ethic on a Friday morning and I'm hours away from the big bastard! Looks like there's precious little time for me to chuck out that work ethic this weekend. I've got to be a damned sight sterner than usual in the old quality control with the discipline that M.P.s pay high prices & favour for in those suburban bedrooms, if I'm to make it past the large sheet of paper with NO MORE MONEY writ large upon it. Bus? Train? - decisions, decisions! Do we re-do the glockenspiels or echo the little so and soes out of all recognition - a sound you never heard before? Which is The Voice to tell you about [listen to Partytime]Partytime? And will Zombie Love ever sound as good as The Zombies? We're a long way from the truth yet poppets. This is my first record all by myself. It's been a pleasure, which is good because that's what they should be isn't it? It's been a worry to - still is - and loads more besides.... I'll let you know how we get on.

AMG REVIEW: A true style chameleon, the Jazz Butcher is a hard act to categorize -- and nowhere more so than on this album, which is primarily a one-man effort with help from assorted sidemen. The songs here are embryonic forays into styles he would explore more confidently on subsequent albums. The title track is a punky blues number complete with squealing Elvis Costello-style organ. "Poisoned by Food" and "Sex Engine Thing" are thin, raw, folk-pop influenced numbers with an irresistibly nervous beat; the former paraphrases Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild," while the latter snitches Jonathan Richman's "Bye-bye" line from "Roadrunner." The musical feel of that Modern Lovers song is also evoked in a jazzy way on "Jazz Butcher Theme." "Partytime" is best described as cocktail folk. "La Mer" is a faux French folk song with surreal lyrics about elephants. Clever, unusual accompaniments are put forth in "Chinatown" (flutes, glockenspiel, click track) and "Grey Flanellette" [sic] (glockenspiels, bass, organ, sandpaper blocks, click track). The songs have unusual, improvisatory nonsense lyrics that veer from the obscure to the semi-clever. The sound and playing have a homemade quality that sometimes crosses the line into sloppiness. This is a strange yet intriguing record.

CONDITION: The record is in near mint condition & the cover is VG+ with a 1/2" seam split on the top middle, light wear on the top corner tips & some light 1" or less hairline creases on the top edge areas mainly.

LP SHIPPING + PACKING & VARIOUS INFO:
I use real coated cardboard LP mailers when I ship vinyl & these are very durable. I usually take the records with the inner sleeves out of the covers (unless factory sealed of course) so they don't split the seams of the cover in shipment. Then I put them in a 2 or 3 mil plastic sleeve & then wrap a plastic bag or two around them to keep them from flopping around in the mailer, this method seems to work best since it adds air & almost works like bubble wrap (keeps the LP's usually under a pound & saves a lot on shipping rates worldwide compared to using cardboard inserts), breakage rate has been way less than 1 in 1000 using this method, if I added cardboard it also would make the weight of it more prone to the corners getting dented in transit if dropped. 10" records & 12" singles count as 1 LP for shipping, single laserdiscs count as 2 LP's for shipping (& I pack 2+ records differently & I have oversized boxes for larger packages...don't worry I've been sending out stuff about 5 days a week for over 20 years now & know exactly what I'm doing over here). I also add plain white inner sleeves so custom innersleeves don't get spit in shipping also (if either company or specialty sleeves came with the record).

All records are BLACK VINYL unless noted & inserts/gatefold covers/posters/custom inner sleeves will be noted in the description if they are included plus promo & cutout marks stated if they are there also. I don't believe in hiding stuff & try to note most everything that should matter to buyers. All 12" vinyl on ebay is automatically listed as 33 1/3 rpm & 7" vinyl as 45 rpm (to save time on listing all this stuff) if you need to confirm speed on a specific item please ask & I can go check.
