I'm finally selling off some of my record albums that take up far too much room in my house and are no longer played, many of which in fact were not played and some of which are promotional LPs and the like. All records come with their original protective paper sleeve, and two of them are still in the original shrink-wrapping -- hence, are unopened and (presumably) in mint condition.

The first lot I'm selling is sure to interest any fans of The Jam, Style Council, and of course Paul Weller, leading figure in both the bands -- he's actually doing some gigs in NY and environs this week! --  which flourished in the UK in the 1980s. One of the records is on the British Polydor label and was manufactured in the UK , while the others are all PolyGram, the musicians' American label (where a friend, who gave me some of these records, used to work), and were (I would assume) pressed in the USA.

I know this isn't really necessary, but here are condensed Wikipedia entries on the two groups (which I enjoyed reading, anyway):

The Jam were an English punk rock/New Wave/mod revival band active during the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were formed in Woking,  Surrey. While they shared the "angry young men" outlook and fast tempos of their punk rock contemporaries, The Jam wore smartly tailored suits rather than ripped clothes, and they incorporated a number of mainstream 1960s rock and R&B influences rather than rejecting them, placing The Jam at the forefront of the mod revival movement.

They had 18 consecutive Top 40 singles in the United Kingdom, from their debut in 1977 to their break-up in December 1982, including four number one hits. As of 2007, "That's Entertainment" and "Just Who Is the 5 O'Clock Hero?" remained the best-selling import singles of all time in the UK They released one live album and six studio albums, the last of which, "The Gift," hit number one on the UK album charts. When the group split up, their first 15 singles were re-released and all placed within the top 100.

The band drew upon a variety of stylistic influences over the course of their career, including 1960s beat music, soul, rhythm and blues, and psychedelic rock, as well as 1970s punk and new wave. The trio was known for its melodic pop songs, its distinctly English flavour and its mod image. The band launched the career of Paul Weller, who went on to form The Style Council and later had a successful solo career. Weller wrote and sang most of The Jam’s original compositions, and he played lead guitar, using a Rickenbacker. Bruce Foxton provided backing vocals and prominent basslines, which were the foundation of many of the band’s songs, including the hits "Down in the Tube Station at Midnight," "The Etonn Rifles," "Going Underground," and "Town Called Malice."

The Style Council was an English band, formed in Woking in 1983 by Paul Weller, the former singer and guitarist with The Jam, and keyboardist Mick Talbot, previously a member of Dexys Midnight Runners and The Merton Parkas. The permanent line-up grew to include drummer Steve White and Weller's then-wife, vocalist Dee C. Lee. Other artists such as Tracie Young and Tracey Thorn (Everything But the Girl) also collaborated with the group. As with Weller's previous band, most of this London based outfit's hits were in their homeland, although the band did score six top 40 hits in Australia, and seven top 40 hits in New Zealand.

Here are the six records I'm selling, listed more or less in chronological order (of their copyright dates):

The Jam: Jam Sound Affects No. 80, Polydor Deluxe POLD 5035 (2442 183), made in UK. Side 1: Pretty Green, Monday, But I'm Different Now, Set the House Ablaze, Start!, That's Entertainment; Side 2: Dream Time, Man in the Corner Shop, Music for the Last Couple, Boy about Town, Scrape Away. This LP was listened to at some point, I think, but not my me. It has a couple marks in blue ink on the back cover (two songs on Side 1 are circled. The record is within a great pictorial sleeve, with a moody color photo of the band on one side and the songs' lyrics on the other.

The Jam: EP containing, as printed on a label on the front, "5 BRITISH HIT SINGLES Previously Unreleased in the U.S.A." Polydor/PolyGram PX-1-503. Stamped on the top right of the back: "LOANED FOR PROMOTION ONLY / Not for Sale / Ownership And All Rights Reserved".  Side A: Absolute Beginners, Tales from the Riverbank; Side B: Funeral Pyre, Disguises, Liza Radley. Printed on the back are lyrics to Absolute Beginners and Funeral Pyre. Record sleeve is plain white, with no imagery.

The Jam: Beat Surrender, EP, Polydor/PolyGram 810 751-1 Y-1. Printed on front: "SPECIAL LOW PRICE / THE LAST STUDIO RECORDING BY / ENGLAND'S LEGENDARY JAM." Side 1: Beat Surrender, Shopping; Side 2: Move on Up, Stoned Out of My Mind, War. UNOPENED IN SHRINK WRAPPING but with vertical notch cut at bottom left (indicating it was remaindered or cheaper or a promo or freebie?).

The Jam: The Gift, LP, Polydor/PolyGram PD-1-6349. Label affixed to front reads: "THE / JAM / ENGLAND'S #1 / ROCK 'N" ROLL / BAND / PD-1-6349." Side 1: Happy Together, Ghosts, Precious, Just Who Is the Five O'Clock Hero?, "Trans-Global Express"; Side 2: Running on the Spot, Circus, The Planner's Dream Goes Wrong, Carnation, Town Called Malice, The Gift. UNOPENED IN SHRINK WRAPPING.  

The Jam: The Bitterest Pilll (I Ever Had to Swallow), EP, Polydor/Polygram PX-1-506 (2478 166). Side 1: The Bitterest Pill (I ever had to swallow), Pity Poor Alfie, Fever; Side 2: The Great Depression, War. Includes guest singer Jenny McKeown, who, as it reads on the back cover, "appears by courtesy of The Belle Stars and Stiff Records." Record sleeve is plain white, with no imagery.

The Jam: Snap!, double LP, Polydor.PolyGram 815 537-1 Y-2. Side 1: In the City, Away from the Numbers, All around the World, The Modern World, News of the World, Bily Hunt, English Rose, Mr. Clean; Side 2: David Watts, A Bomb in Wardour Street, Down in the Tube Station at Midnight, Strange Town, The Butterfly Collector, When You're Young, Smithers-Jones, Thick as Thieves; Side 3: The Eton Rifles, Going Underground, Dreams of Children, That's Entertainment, Start!, Man in the Corner Shop, Funeral Pyre; Side 4: Absolute Beginniers, Tales from the Riverbank, Town Called Malice, Precious, The Bitterest Pill (I Ever Had to Swallow), Beat Surrender. Album cover opens up and has lots of photos inside. I guess this is a compilation of "titles previously released" and was put together after the band broke up The cover has a horizontal notch cut at bottom right (indicating it was remaindered or cheaper or a promo or freebie?).

The Style Council: Introducing The Style Council, Polydor/PolyGram Mini LP,  815 277-1 Y-1. Has a label on front reading: "Introducing / the / Style / Council / contains the hit / Long Hot / Summer / 815 277-1 Y-1". Face A: Long Hot Summer, Headstart for Happiness, Speak Like a Child; Face B: Long Hot Summer (Club Mix), The Paris Match, Mick's Up, Money-Go-Round (Club Mix). UNOPENED IN SHRINK WRAPPING, but has vertical notch cut at bottom left of cover.

The condition of the three records in shrink-wrapping is, I would assume, mint -- it's how they were when I acquired them in the 1980s in New York City (and have since kept them in relatively climate-controlled storage areas, first in a Manhattan apartment, later in a couple Connecticut locations). The others if I remember correctly were played at least once by me (if not at all), but probably not all that much afterwards (I usually made compilation cassette tapes to listen to on my Walkman, though I did occasionally pop an LP on the turntable -- boy, does that date me!).

This lot comprising six (6) records by The Jam and one (1) by their more-or-less successor, The Style Council, all from my own personal collection and some of them unopened / unplayed, is being sold AS IS, as described above and pictured herein. I am setting what I believe is a very reasonable BUY-IT-NOW price for the two well-preserved titles.  

Shipping and handling for the records: $4 to U.S. addresses (via Media Mail, for which I can charge $4 max, even though the actual cost of shipping the 7 records will be more) and $30 to Canada and $40 to Europe, Japan, Australia, South America, and elsewhere in the world (the latter two via First Class International Mail aka Air Mail, which is the CHEAPEST method possible abroad).  

Note that due to eBay's strict policy, I ACCEPT PAYPAL ONLY FROM ALL BUYERS, both in the U.S. and abroad. If you want the LPs sent more quickly to you (e.g., via Priority or Express Mail), you must request this asap after winning or purchasing the records (or beforehand, if possible), and I will adjust the amount accordingly.

The records will be sent to you no more than 2 business days following receipt of payment (that is, when PayPal informs me that your payment has been posted to or otherwise cleared in my account). However, if a family emergency necessitates my presence away from the computer -- as may be the case, since I am the primary caretaker for a seriously ill relative who resides with me -- and it takes me more than this time to ship the items to you, I hope I can count on your understanding (and I will notify you of any delays within a few hours after the auction is over).
