THE GRODECK WHIPPERJENNY s/t Rare 1970 Original Funky Psych Rock lp M-

1970/Canada/Columbia PS-3000….. here's a gorgeous original Canadian pressing of this rare funky Psych Rock lp. The cover is in clean VG++ condition with slight shelf and light corner wear, top seam has some paper missing(approx. thin 3" area at center), seen mainly from the back cover but the seam is not split, otherwise solid and clean with no splits or delete! The vinyl is in strong excellent to M- condition with a handful of near invisible inaudible sleeve lines. The vinyl is glossy and clean and plays clean with clean fidelity. Clean labels have no spindle marks. A keeper copy here! Please check my auctions for other rock and psych lp’s. Good luck and thanks for looking!

The Grodeck Whipperjenny were wolves in sheep attire: a Cincinnati-based group of jazz musicians flexing their rock chops under the auspices of future CTI artist and Grodeck leader David Matthews, who at the time was serving as arranger and writer for the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. The band's lone 1970 release exists in the sonic hinterland between Funkadelic-style psychedelic soul and a distinctly soulful prog rock that shares some territory with Brian Auger and Norman Whitfield's Motown productions. The soupy results are truly sublime with funky tracks like "Sitting Here on a Tongue" coasting on Kenny Poole's fuzz guitar and Jimmy Madison's insistent drums that surely made Brown, who gets his requisite "A James Brown Production" credit, proud. The proceedings get even harder and heavier with the lysergic caveman stomp of "Put Your Thing on Me" and "Why Can't I Go Back." Matthews gets to strut his arranging stuff on the string-heavy "Conclusions" and takes his Hammond for a ride on the trippy "Evidence for the Existence of the Unconscious." It's a wild ride, and not to be missed.

GRADING

MINT: I consider New Unplayed or Sealed items only.

M- or Mint Minus, very clean with clean visual appearance and sound, there may be a couple of light inaudible hairline scuffs or such and will be mentioned in the listing, a Mint- record looks and plays very clean. Same for the cover. Very clean with no delete or other issues.

EXCELLENT: still very collectable for most, visually and sonicly clean. A handful of light inaudible scuffs, or hairlines. Cover will be clean with little wear, or delete. No splits.

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal wear, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much. Cover will have slight shelf wear, and or delete, minor split.

VG+ the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects.
