VINYL is NEAR MINT-
Strong Gloss Vinyl is NEAR MINT- on SIDE A with no marks except for the 'Deadwax' area around label, which shows light scuff, away from the grooves. SIDE B is Full NEAR MINT with only some very faint sleeve 'sheen' marks, viewed under hard bright light. No scuffs or hairlines at all. Label SIDE A has some slight roughness to paper, compared to the SIDE B Label which is Pristine. No spindle marks on either side.

COVER is NEAR MINT-
Snapping bright, vibrant and spanking clean cover still in the original Shrink Wrap - small missing piece of shrink wrap u.r. corner; No creases, bends, writing, age toning or soil. a couple of barely bumped (still sharp) corner tips. All corners sharp, all edges straight. No splits; NO Cut Out, Drill Hole, Punch Hole or Saw Cut.

1967 issue of The FUGS’ 1966 second album, Self-titled “FUGS” on ESP-DISK featuring the bold, striking RARE Alternate PSYCHEDELIC SHIELD COVER (1st run front cover SHIELD art with METALLIC gold ink .)

Almost all ESP-DISK albums of the time had simple BLACK & WHITE cover art. The 1st copies of this album to hit the New York streets in 1966 also used a simple, dull, B&W photo cover.
BACK Cover features the original ALLEN GINSBERG LINER NOTES, along right side. PHOTOS at Top. 156 5th Avenue, New York 10010 ESP-Disk address printed on labels and back cover.
Given the wild response to THE FUGS from critics and listeners, ESP gathered their pennies and splurged for this superb Psychedelic Shield cover printing. This cover appeared in 1967 only (with and then without the 'metallic' gold ink), then ESP-DISK went back to the former simple B&W cover again, to keep paying the rent.

At the time of its release, the FUGS' second (self-titled) album contained the most outrageous lyrics ever heard on a Top 100 rock & roll LP. The group, with roots in New York's underground folk and poetry scenes, flung themselves wholeheartedly into all-out garage rock on this 1966 record, which addresses concerns like free love, the madness of war, and government repression.
There would NEVER be any so-called New York Rock (Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, Ramones, New York Dolls, Television...) had the Fugs not explosively broken that ground first, and pointed the way.
...a MOTHER OF ALL GARAGE/PSYCH ALBUMS. The LP represented a salacious, radical shift for the FUGS, from the East Village political-activist growl of their first album, which could be characterized as folk songs of political protest played in a "garage" way, to this, their second album, which is an all-out electric assault on good taste and bourgeoisie, aseptic, vapid establishment. Derelicts of the world unite!!
