Description
For sale is this wonderful vinyl LP of BOB DYLAN - THE FREEWHEELIN' BOB DYLAN on CBS Records 1963. I believe this is the 1963 1st U.K. Mono Pressing - the so-called "Phillips" pressing. The catalogue number is BPG 62193. The sleeve has a laminated front and unlaminated back with two flip-backs and no printing credit. The disc has the rough/textured labels and weighs 167g. The matrices are as follows:
Side One - BPG 62193 1L∇1=420 1 (then an indistinct character looks like a backwards 4) 2 Side Two - BPG 62193 2L∇ 1//420 1 1 (then an indistinct character looks like a backwards 9)
I believe these are consistent with stampers known to have been used for the 1st Mono Pressing.
Condition*:
The sleeve is VG+. The front has some slight creasing. The laminated surface has separated slightly from the printed surface in places but is not coming off (see final picture). There is only very light wear to the edges, corners and spine with a more distressed area in the middle of the opening edge from 60+ years of taking the record out. The back is great with light signs of age and handling. The top flip-back is lifting slightly in the top L/H corner and there is a little darkening around the perimeter. Overall a really good sleeve.
The disc is VG. The record has a nice dark, glossy lustre albeit with signs of plenty of play. The labels are great. Side One has a small number of very light hairline scratches but nothing intruding into the audio beyond some expected atmosphere and crackle. Side Two the same though there are a couple of scratches that make an audible tick - one very briefly in Don't Think Twice and one for longer (about 30 seconds) during Bob Dylan's Dream. Were it not for these I would grade the record higher. Other than this the record has been played through from start to finish and plays really well. Overall a really great copy of this Dylan 1st Pressing.

I can only give an honest appraisal based on careful visual inspection and thorough play testing. I do try to describe all significant faults and I certainly won't intentionally hide anything. Please read the description carefully, look at the pictures and make your own mind up. The grading scale I have used goes from G to NM with VG+ as par. In other words: Good (G), Very Good (VG), Very Good+ (VG+), Excellent (EX) and Near Mint (NM). Anything better than that would be Mint and would be listed as new. Anything worse than Good I probably wouldn't be selling.
