The Flaming Lips / Oh My Gawd!!! - Restless Records 72207-1 (US)(1987) ...This auction is for an original issue Record on (US) vinyl. This is a first pressing on Clear Vinyl that is no longer in print.
The Flaming Lips dive head-on into rock dreams on Oh My Gawd!!! Singer Wayne Coyne's sudden resemblance vocally to Paul Westerberg is its own curiosity, but the Replacements never quite got so fried (drunk, yes, but not fried). The same combination of this and that which made Hear It Is a fun listen takes precedence here -- Coyne and company can strum along softly or crank everything up to ten and back as they please, and they do. Coyne's knack for utterly brilliant song titles also takes full life here.

OH MY GAWD!!!...IT'S THE FLAMING LIPS is the second full-length album by head Lip Wayne Coyne and his band. After their debut, which seemed to musically channel the Cramps more than anything, this one draws inspiration from everything between the Meat Puppets to Pink Floyd. This set fulfills the promise of their early material, but keep in mind that this is still a long way from the polished freak/pop machine that produced "She Don't Use Jelly" in 1993 and THE SOFT BULLETIN in 1999.
After the crunching opener, "Everything's Explodin'," which features wicked drumming by Richard English, the Lips move into "One Million Billionth on a Millisecond on a Sunday Morning." An epic in the best possible way, it is a laid-back, nine-plus-minute monument to stoner rock, complete with rolling drums, some vaguely Neil Young-like guitar, and plenty of references to cereal and television. Other standouts include "The Ceiling Is Bending," with more great drumming by English and some mind-bending guitar work, and the album closer, "Love Yer Brain," a pretty piano, drum, and guitar piece that accompanies Coyne's oddly touching vocals and concludes with the band beating the piano to death, literally.
