Description
Be-Bop-A-Lula b/w Everybody Needs Somebody-The Five Card Stud (Red Bird RB 10-082) Though some sources claim this track was released in 1967, it was released on December of 1966.
Arranged and produced by Richard Perry, this hard-hitting 'garage' single in all honesty should have made some noise. Though this was a rather good effort, the band who began life at Yale University as The Stains changed their name shortly afterwards to The Five Cards Stud. There are more DJ copies of this rare track in existence than commercial copies.
At this point in the history of Red Bird Records, the label would release one more single after this one, and without fanfare, then will close it's doors forever. In April of 1967, George Goldner would begin liquidation of the label, selling the masters off to Shelby Singleton, a man who would also purchase the masters from the infamous Sun label.
Goldner was unable to secure the publishing rights to Trio Music, as they belonged to Mike Stoller & Jerry Leiber. The residue of the label is tricky, as later tracks that were released by Red Bird were licensed from other sources (Is why there may never be a thorough compilation of both Red Bird and Blue Cat's singles).
