· THE EVERLY BROTHERS - DATE WITH EVERLY BROTHERS - ORIGINAL 1960 WARNER BROTHERS MONO LP W-1395
· ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING
· ORIGINAL GREY WARNER BROTHERS “VITAPHONIC” MONO LABEL WITH BLACK PRINT
· RCA VICTOR CUSTOM PRESSING, MOST LIKELY RCA CAMDEN, NJ.
· DEEP GROOVE PRESSING
· MIGHTY RARE FIRST VERSION OF THE COVER (“PHONE BOOTH COVER)
· NOTE: THIS, FIRST VERSION OF THE COVER (THE GATEFOLD “PHONE BOOTH” COVER) WAS ORIGINALLY IN CIRCULATION IN 1960-62; IT WAS THEN WITHDRAWN AND THE ALBUM WAS REISSUED WITH A REGULAR (SINGLE-POCKET) COVER WITH A DIFFERENT (FRAMED) PHOTO OF THE DUO, WHICH REMAINED IN CIRCULATION BETWEEN 1962 AND 1967; THEN, AROUND 1967, WARNER BROTHERS APPARENTLY FOUND AN UNUSED STOCK OF OLD, GATEFOLD COVERS AND STARTED PACKAGING (VERY BRIEFLY!) NEW PRESSINGS ON GREEN W-7 LABELS IN ORIGINAL ‘PHONE BOOTH’ COVERS; ODDLY ENOUGH, AFTER 1968, WARNER AGAIN USED ORIGINAL, “PHONE BOOTH” COVER, BUT THIS TIME AS REGULAR, SINGLE-POCKET COVERS AND WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL PHOTO INSERTS. IN OTHER WORDS, THIS ALBUM HAD HAD ONE OF THE MORE INTERESTING COVER HISTORIES – 4 VERSION ALTOGETHER

· INCLUDES ULTRA RARE ORIGINAL INSERT: A SET OF 8 WALLET-SIZED POCKET COLOR PHOTOS OF THE EVERLY BROTHERS IN FABULOUS CONDITION.
· ORIGINAL COVER STILL HAS A EASEL DISPLAY CUTOUT LINES ON THE BACK COVER (THE PART OF THE BACK COVER CAN BE PULLED DOWN AND DISPLAYED TO STAND UPRIGHT (OR BE HUNG ON THE WALL) AS SHOWCASE DISPLAY; THE SMALL PULL-OUT NOTCH ON THE BOTTOM IS MISSING, WHICH IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALMOST ALL SURVIVING COPIES OF THIS ALBUM – MOST COPIES OF THIS ALBUM HAVE THIS LITTLE SECTION PULLED OUT AND MISSING).
· ORIGINAL GATEFOLD COVER, MADE OF THICK CARDBOARD (AMERICAN STYLE)
· THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING
· MATRIX NUMBER IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) ENDS WITH '-1B/-1C'. ON SOME LABELS, SUFFIX '–1' DENOTES THE VERY FIRST, ORIGINAL PRESSING)
· MACHINE-STAMPED MATRIX NUMBER IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) OF THE RECORD
· MONO version of this album has NEVER been available on legitimate Compact Disc or in any other digital format.

Before the wave of the British Invasion swept American shorts in early 1963, Kentucky born brothers Don & Phil Everly were able to score a seemingly endless string of singles on the American Pop charts. Their sweet close harmony style of singing gave them a sure fire formula to sell their songs and win the hearts of young teenage girls. At times, their harmonized voices almost seem to be a single instrument.
On their 2nd Warner album (their fifth overall), A DATE WITH THE EVERLY BROTHERS, they rarely deviate from their well proven vocal approach. Although they dabbled with a bit of Rock & Roll (as shown here on their own unique reading of "Lucille"), their music lacked the dangerousness of the outlaw early rockabilly artists and had more in common with the safer pop artists of the 1950s. The Everly's seemed to be selling a more innocent take on young love in contrast to Elvis' more passionate and subversively sexual pleadings to his young female audience.
Thanks to the contributions of songwriters like Boudleaux & Felice Bryant (who wrote 5 songs for this record), the Everly's have a good selection of well crafted songs to work from. One of those songs, "Love Hurts", has been covered countless times since the Everly's recorded their rendition. Still, it is interesting to behold how well their harmonies suit this now classic song.
Favorite Tracks: "Made To Love" and "Love Hurts"

· CONDITION:
· THE RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.
(d) The album comes with its original insert: a set of 8 color wallet-sized photos of the Everly Brothers
(e) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(f) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, “PHONE BOOTH” GATEFOLD COVER):
THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has two corners slightly worn (nothing significant)
- Minor shelf wear noted on the top seams (nothing significant)
- Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1.
- Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging (BARELY VISIBLE)
NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER
